Yep.. We may stop by if we are diving through for fun but they are way over price on everything. Asbury Thrift Store in Madison is much better.

Sometimes I take a short trip to Scottsboro just to get away and stop at the Unclaimed Baggage shop. (BTW Scottsboro has an excellent Captain D's!)

I mainly browse because most of the stuff is overpriced. The book selection is pretty good and I found a few bargains there. I got coffee at their little cafe the last time I was there, which was also overpriced and burnt.

I remember it before it moved to its larger location. It seemed to have better deals then.

Don't know who buys their stuff. The 1 time I went, I couldn't believe their pricing. Waaaay to high for junk.

Most of their stuff is way over-priced but we found some okay deals a few months ago. My husband got a very nice leather Kindle Fire cover for $2. He and our son each got a very nice down jacket for under $20. Our son also got a nice laptop satchel for ~$7 and a London Fog trench coat for $20. Their jewelry prices are crazy high, the electronics are a real gamble and the idea of buying used shoes, no matter the price, is kind of icky to me. We don't make special trips there but if we are heading to/from Chattanooga and have an hour to spare, we'll stop by. Sometimes we score, but most times we are in and out pretty quickly.

I think UB feels that if there is a "recognizable" name attached to an item, they up the price, forgetting that the item is used. However, you can get some good deals there, just not on every trip. Keep in mind, a lot of eBay sellers and the like shop looking for re-saleable items. Personally, I like to go every once in a while, I enjoy it, even if I don't find anything. What scares me is all the stuff they have....I'm always imagining about the unfortunate person who "lost" their possessions--bridal dresses, laptops, or anything that appears to have been important to them. Besides, I just love thrift store shopping, I don't re-sale, just like to save money when I can!

Years ago I would load up the kids, then we would all head out first to South Pittsburg to score our fireworks, then back to Scottsboro first to the Western Sizzlin, then Unclaimed Baggage.

Well, the road was rerouted to bypass SP, so the fireworks outlets moved out by the interstate, still a good deal but not like it was. Then Unclaimed Baggage took a turn for the worse.

I used to buy nice suit coats for $10 or $15. Now they are $70. Everything is just to high and the place is overrun with members of a non-citizen heritage. (how politically correct is that!)

The only part of it all I miss is the lunch at Western Sizzlin. Those are getting far and few between.

right you are.... the annex, a part of unclaimed baggage, i8 saw a shop vac, exactly like the one got a week earlier at walmart.... difference was, the annex vac was $5 higher, and the box was all beat up.

Last time I went, they had a Canon camera that we looked at, it was $1200. While it was very nice, we had just purchased the exact same camera...model and everything....brand new WITH the bonus of the nice bag and an additional lens for $1300 brand new (we spotted it and just wanted to look to see if it was a "deal"). I would GLADLY spend $100 more (the bag itself was worth nearly that much) to have the peace of mind that I have a warranty and that if the camera did not function correctly I can return and get a replacement. The camera at UB did not have the extra lens, no bag, no box, no manuals...just the body and one lens.

I don't get how UB makes any money, or are people just uninformed of what the value of items are and feel it is a "deal" because it is at UB? I do remember the days of UB when there was one (don't know if it is still there?) in Boaz we used to go to, and there were truly GOOD deals (more like a thrift store).

I hadn't been in a few years and stopped by earlier this week and agree with everything that's been said. I would like to buy a new iPod and while the 3rd generation 32 GB was $125 (about 175 on eBay) but I was just afraid of it not working. The associate said if there were any issues I could bring it back within 14 days for store credit. If it was 15 minutes away I would consider it but an hour, I don't think so. It's a good place to take out of town visitors just for the novelty but I would definitely warn them ahead of time. You may find a book or piece of clothing that just needs to be washed but I would be afraid to buy an electronics or anything of value.
