My wife and I currently live in Oklahoma where I work as a civilian for the Air Force. My wife has prior civilian experience with the Army (here in Oklahoma and Anniston Army Depot...she loved Alabama). She has had a terrible time getting a job here (Tinker AFB hasn't been announcing jobs in Log. Mgmt, which is her expertise but Redstone Arsenal is). Anyway, I have 7 years of civil service experience as an electronics engineer and I'm trying to figure out how hard it is to get a job at RSA with only a bachelor's degree in EE. It seems like most of the engineers who work at RSA have a masters degree or higher. I've been applying for jobs and it seems like my best chance is to wait for the right announcement to open up that I best fit. Any input from anyone who works at RSA regarding this, please chime in.

Thanks!

I would look at an EE job with DLA - not to actually work for them but because DLA has an app system which instantly rates your buzz words so you can refine your 171 over and over again. Also I would apply for NASA slots at RSA. It is not what you have; its how you play the game, sadly

What does your resume look like? A government resume does NOT comapre to a civillian resume.

My civillian resume is 1 page long...my government resume is almost 5 pages long....

Do you monitor jobs at www.cpol.army.mil but most jobs that are on CPOL are also on the above website that jdbiron mentioned.

Also there is a website (google "FASCLASS") this is the website that tells you EXACTALLY what you resume should say....

So lets say you are looking at a job and the series/grade says
GS-2210-13/13

The GS is General Service (I think) the series is 2210 and the 13 is your grade you will be starting at....

Well in FASCLASS you look up series 2210 for the grade of 13 and this will give you exactally what they are looking for..."ALL THE BUZZ WORDS"

It is just not DLA that does this, it is the entire gonvermental system. By LAW they must use those parameters in FASCLASS for job openings...

Hope this helps...

BTW, I work on Redstone...

The guy says in the ninth word of his post he is a civil servant. Anyone who has been around for any period of time knows that the Annisiton ARMY depot is a Army post. Army posts use CPOL. The guys knows about CPOL. A class for resume' prep, any class. is OK as far as that goes but only DLA (as far as I know) gives you imediate feedback on your rating using DoD sniffer technology.

FASCLASS is not "the Law" it is a propretary system that the Army uses, and so... The Army uses it. NASA and other federal agencies uses other sniffer software. Several Agencies hire EEs at Redstone.

Look OP, you got your degree in EE because you are intellegent. I would apply for several JOAs with several agencies using the best 171 style resume that you have. Am I the only person who remembers the 171? Apparently.

I have been arround. I too work at Redstone, I am on my third RSA agency and I worked at Anniston also. RSA is much better.

No he said he worked a civillian....for the AirForce....I am a civillan, I work for the Army....does that mean I'm civial service? No, I'm a contractor that works for the Army...

THe 9th word is "where" not sure how that equates to civial service....

Geez dude, go have a cup of coffee.....Sorry....

I'm not going to sit here and argue with you....not many people know about FASCLASS....those are the "buzz words" that CPOL uses to weed out....put out a job description that does not use FASCLASS for a civial service Army job and see what happens....DLA may give you an instant feed back...good for them.....

Default Hard to get on at Redstone Arsenal with the Army?

I used Civil Service when I meant to say civilian. Anyway, I use USAJobs to find all of the jobs that are available and then I use CPOL (I search there too but USAJobs is easier) to apply. My resume is around 3 pages in length. As far as NASA is concerned, I'm not that interested in working for them as I am directly for the Army. Anyway, the intent of my original post was to inquire about how difficult it is to get a job with the Army at RSA given that I only have a Bachelor's Degree in EE. It seems (my assumption) that most of the engineers at RSA have a masters degree or higher.

As far as Anniston is concerned, I brought it up because my wife has prior experience there as an 0346 and Tinker AFB is not announcing 0346 positions externally at this time (they're filling them all internally). Since she loved Alabama while she was there, I just thought it would be easier for both of us if I got a job at RSA and she could apply to the plethora of 0346 positions that are announced. Plus, she has a few strings she could pull on at RSA if she needs to. If that doesn't work, the Ammo positions from Virginia are supposed to be BRAC'd there by 2011 so she could wait for those.

Hope this clears things up and thanks for all of the replies!

Well, just remember there are ALOT more jobs on the way here in the coming months/years...

If your wife has stings..then pull them...RSA area is amazing, we love the area so much we retired here...I was up here alot when I was in the Army...I worked for ATTC/RTTC then...now it is RTC.

I believe there are plenty of jobs here and the housing market is doing very well right now, it is still a buyers market...and when you find the right one they will pay a lot of the closing costs, if not all....

I am a contractor, with 21 years + aviation experience and thought I could walk into a job (a GS job) here at RSA, did not happen, but landed a very very nice job as a contractor working on RSA.....the jobs are here if you have the experience....

Oh and BTW, I JUST recieved my 2 year degree and still landed an very nice job....8 months ago

I know that Army Material Command (AMC) is moving here, I believe there is more of a list "somewhere" on this board.

Let me do some looking around, it maybe Monday before I respond, but BRAC has helped RSA more than hurt RSA.
