I wanted to thank you all for keeping this thread updated as I was constantly updating the Sandy thread in the CT forum. I was posting maps, stats, and updates. //www.city-data.com/forum/conne...er-2012-a.html

It was an incredible storm! Here are some stats and sad pictures...I posted some of my own from the beach down here in the thread above.

Just got power back and I am absolutely heartbroken over what I'm seeing. The Jersey Shore, my second home in summer, just completely devastated. And the fact that this is happening in my own state. Usually I see destruction in say, Florida, Texas, one of those places, I'm like "oh wow, that's terrible" but I obviously don't feel the way they feel. But now with this storm I know what it's like. As for damage in the vicinity of my own house though, nothing really happened fortunately, only one tree fell. During some of those gusts though I thought for sure a tree would fall on my house or the roof would fly off or something! Luckily it didn't and my power only went out for 1 1/2 days. Can't say the same for people closer to the shore though. Hope everyone is safe and doing well. This was just a disaster.

The picture with the rollercoaster under water was the most memorable and made me realize what happened in coastal NJ as the center of Sandy crossed over Atlantic City.

This was a Katrina of the NorthEast.

Devestating..................

I've never been to Jersey, so pardon my ignorance. But where the rollercoaster is in the picture, was that right next to the water and it got flooded, or did the rollercoaster float there from somewhere else?

Devestation no matter what though............

Jersey Shore After Hurricane Sandy: Seaside Heights Completely Destroyed (PHOTOS) - Gallery - Damage From Hurricane Sandy in Seaside Heights, New Jersey: Casino Pier Roller Coaster - Jersey Shore

The roller coast itself is in Seaside Heights a resort town along the barrier islands. From what I could tell via news reports this section of the roller coaster there broke off and was indeed taken a bit back into ocean. But yes the roller coaster otherwise was near/on the beach there. I say this based on what I know reading various news local reports.... I have never been there though so if I am way offbase someone correct me.

I've always wondered how and why we humans always wanted to be so close to a powerful uncontrollable ocean. Maybe recent years will make us rethink our habits. Generations before us lived in quiet times.

I had 2 condos a walk from the beach. I sold them in 2007 for 2 sole reasons. Market was peaking and... I was terrified this would happen one day.
