Tropical Storm Darby forms in the East Pacific on Tuesday July 12, 2016.


As of 2pm (PDT) Thursday July 14, 2016:
Winds 85mph, moving W at 14mph, pressure 985mb (29.09in).
Located about 720 miles SW of the S tip of Baja California.

Heading away from land.

Will post more details Friday.

Update Saturday 2p PDT July 16, 2016:

Winds 115mph, moving WNW 10mph, pressure 962mb (28.41in). Heading away from land. Expected to weaken over cooler waters soon.

Seems like we're always ready for storms that, like you say, we rarely get. I live on the desert, leeward side of Maui so just the fact that it has been raining a bit for several hours is a 'weather event' around here.

Feel really bad for tourists when these storms come by, everything shuts down and folks that spent a lot of time, effort and money get stuck in hotel rooms and are often a bit scared as the ocean gets all crazy, streets flood and they can feel trapped, many actually are totally dependent on their hotel and room service.

Most of us that live here are all set with plenty of food, water, etc, etc to wait out at least a week with no services.

Looks like some areas saw some flash flooding here or there according to news blip on it. Classic Tropical storm effects it appears.

NWS in Hawaii put out these PRELIMINARY unofficial 24hr rainfall totals:
