Earl made landfall into the Belize coastline early on Thursday morning August 4th, 2016 with winds of 80mph. It was starting to really get it's act together just prior to landfall.

Additional heavy rains will continue:




What remains of Earl may combine with a disturbance just off the SW Mexico coast and form a new storm S of Baja California. It still remains to be seen how these two disturbances interact and what forms. The NHC is currently giving this new system a 70% chance of development.

I'll gather some photos from Belize and post this weekend. Belize city saw several feet of water storm surge. May not sound like too much but it's low lying on the coast, and if you had even just a few inches of water in your home or business you can imagine how much damage / repair cost that could be.

Great example of why we have a 'cone of uncertainty' where the cone marks the possible position of the center of the storm in the future...check out Tuesday August 2nd prediction cone with the actual meandering track of the storm as of Thursday:

Friday August 5, 2016 11amEST update:

Winds 40mph, moving West 10mph, pressure 1001mb.

Located over the warm waters of Bay of Campeche, will make landfall tonight again into the Mexico state of Veracruz as a weak Tropical Storm. Main threat will be continued heavy rains.

Rainfall will be enhanced by the nearby storm off the southern coast of Mexico.

"HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

WIND: Tropical storm conditions will spread westward across the warning area today and tonight.

RAINFALL: Earl is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 8 to 12 inches over portions of the Mexican states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tabasco and Veracruz through Saturday morning with possible isolated maximum amounts of 18 inches. These rains could result in life-threatening flash floods and mudslides."

Earl taking full advantage of warm Gulf of Campeche waters! Winds back up.

Winds 60mph, moving West 8mph, pressure 1001mb.

Will make landfall in Mexico state of Veracruz tonight.

Main threat still will be very heavy rains.

These rains could result in life- threatening flash floods and mudslides. Reports from the Meteorological Service of Mexico indicate that at least 7.63 inches (194 mm) of rainfall has occurred at Yamonho Chiapas and 5.64 inches (143 mm) has occurred at Boca del Cerro thus far."

Friday August 5, 2016:

Tropical Storm Earl making landfall in Mexico state of Veracruz between cities of Veracruz & Alvarado. Winds 60mph, moving west 8mph, pressure 999mb. Floods and mudslides from heavy rains will be a big concern next few days.
