Thursday August 18, 2016 11amEST update:
Winds 45mph, moving WNW 8mph, pressure 1006mb (29.71in). Tropical Storm force winds extend 35 miles from center. Expected to maintain a general WNW / NW movement next few days.
Trying to keep itself alive as it enters fairly dry air (relative humidity just near 40%). Stronger shear expected to hinder development in 48-72 hours. But very warm waters will give it something to fight back with. As such, intensity models are scattered ranging from dissipated system to hurricane within 96 hours. Time will tell. Likely a weaker system. NHC forecast is a mix of these models showing a generally weak TS.
Impact: Waves around Fiona currently 8-15 feet.
