Punta Gorda has been hit but what about Venice FL and how close is Venice to Punta Gorda?
Actually...when Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte were hit by Charley, it DID disrupt things up in Venice. People having to go up to Venice for supplies and gas, for example. Our neighborhood was without power for three weeks, although grocery stores had power restored sooner.
Were I live in Venice wasn't affected by Charley at all (I had power, phone TV, etc.). Yes, it made the area busier (restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, etc.) it was just temporary. You can't predict the weather, no matter where you choose to live. I love it here! Kim : )

Sorry, I should have mentioned this...I was living in Port Charlotte, when Charley hit. But it did disrupt things a little. It cost me the job I had, but it actually made it easier for me to get a job at Home Depot!
The store was busy as can be until they opened two more stores, one in-county, the other about 15 minutes away.
