Hurricane force winds only go out 35miles from the storm center, Tropical Storm force 140miles out. Surge and destructive winds near the center approaching land.
Thanks for these posts Psychoma.
Storm is moving at 10 mph. Do you expect that speed to continue? When is the expected Landfall?
Is it time to start looking at high tide/low tide possibilities?

Not sure on when it'll slow down movement speed, but recon in the air and ground radar constantly monitoring so we'll know when it starts to slow. Couldn't tell you specific time of landfall, but within the next few hours. Keep in mind "landfall" is referred to as the actual center single point of a storm, but the eye wall that surrounds that center point is what has the highest winds and surge, arriving before that center point does. At 530CDT/630pEST the eyewall outer edge was less then 10 miles from Port Aransas, so theyre about to be hit by winds/surge, so "official" landfall likely within next 1-2hrs, but eyewall will reach land maybe less then 30min and continue to move inland in general NW direction. For tides would have to look up tidal charts for specific locations as times vary. Tidal times won't change with a hurricane but higher tides make surge worse with higher waters for high tide combined with surge, sometimes water at high tide cant go down for low tide due to surge pushing more in.
Edit: Adding that TropicalTidbits social media just posted radar loop showing what appears to be storm starting to slow movement speed some.

Excellent information and opinions as always Psychoma!
This is not good. Based on your comments (which I'm sure are accurate). The Surge of the Eye Wall could hit Port Aransas (a Very popular Resort Fishing Town here in Texas) in the next 30-60 min.
I just looked up High Tide for Port Aransas. It's at 6:30pm !!!
I hope everyone evacuated "Port A" & that everyone in Rockport, Aransas Pass & a dozen other towns over the bridge on the Mainland have evacuated.
I wouldn't want to be within 10 miles of landfall on Elevation of One feet to 6 feet.........in a town where a CAT 3 Hurricane with 130 mpg Winds is taking dead aim.
Add the fact that this Storm is hitting at High Tide. Holy Crap.
We had family in Sealy during Carla
They came to us--outside Seguin in Guadalupe county--
We thought the eye came over us that far inland
Had wind, wind and rain for so lon then total quiet--nothing--
Wrnt outside--was so eerie
Then after while started up again after eye passed
Rain had salt in it from gulf waters
Didnt expect that
My dad's garden suffered for couple of yrs and he said the saltwater was cause
Ive heard the salt stories before but never looked them up before! Will have to after this storm.
Keep in mind with hurricanes you need to be in the rain bands to really bring down the stronger winds. So if you're watching Jim C. on the WxChannel reporting from Corpus Christi, and you see its just a little breezy, just wait until he's in next band and the winds pick up.
