Cuba effectively throttled this storm fortunately for west coast. Sadly, I would be willing to bet this storm will create a situation down the road where people let their guard down. If Cuba was not involved this would have been a whole different story. The next one may be just that. This was NOT the ONE for Florida...the next one might be and sadly with the apocolyptic predictions of our wonderful media, people may not be as prepared.

What has happened with the storm surge near tampa? Did the water come back in yet? If it did did it rise above normal levels?

Indeed. Cambium is great. Love all of the weather posts Cambium does over in the Connecticut forum. I'd be at a loss without them half the time.

My Cape Coral neighborhood next to Ft Myers did good. No homes damaged, but fencing and trees, bushes did not. My metal fence was not damaged but the wood and plastic fences all were damaged. I thought my fence would be the first to go. I am glad none of us lost our roofs. Everybody had thumbs up that the homes had no damage. It was bad. The winds continued for hours and hours . It was a huge storm.

Yes it rose above normal level by about 2 ft at peak.

It is still about 1.5 ft above normal at time of this post.
