4CDT/5ESTam Sat 7Oct2017: Hurricane Nate now. Winds 80mph, moving quickly at 22mph NNW, pressure 987mb.

Atlantic - Nate(?) forming Oct 3 off Nicaragua-img_2608.jpg


Some of the heaviest rains from Nate likely to fall near landfall region and in the TN/NC/GA/SC mountains with winds moving upslope helping ring more moisture out. Dangerous flash flooding is possible!!

Nate is officially a hurricane and rapidly intensifying as expected. On the plus side, it seems to be moving rapidly, which should give it less time to build strength in the Gulf.

7CDT/8ESTam Sat 7Oct2017: Winds 85mph, moving NNW 22mph, pressure 986mb. Hurricane force winds (74mph+) extend up to 35miles from storm center, Tropical Storm force (39mph to 73mph) 125miles. Small brief lived tornadoes likely to start popping up along the Gulf coast later today as rain bands come ashore. Increasing surge threat for Mississippi/Alabama coast:
-Morgan City, Louisiana to the mouth of the Mississippi River...4 to 6 ft
-Mouth of the Mississippi River to the Alabama/Florida border...5 to 9 ft
-Alabama/Florida border to the Okaloosa/Walton County Line...4 to 6ft
-Okaloosa/Walton County Line to Indian Pass, Florida...2 to 4 ft
-Indian Pass to Crystal River, Florida...1 to 3 ft

Recon finding almost no winds on the west side of storm...will be interesting today to see if it becomes more organized or stays lopsided.

Microwave imagery confirms recon data of eye/center not closed on the west side resulting in significantly weaker west side while east side continues to intensity.

Bernie is live. Not sure if same link will archive to the video. He shows historically where Nate is it always bended towards Florida then explains why Nate didnt.

There are no October hurricanes that have entered the gulf from where Nate is now and he shows why it did.
