Nate brought a lot of rain and some flooding in MS and AL but didn't do much more damage than power outages. For more northern states, it brings needed rain. Too bad the storm can't make it to the Northwest where Montana desperately needs every drop it can get.

Heavy rains will be developing and spreading into the southern Appalachian Mountains this afternoon, enhanced rainfall due to higher terrain, flash flooding from sudden runoff will be possible:

Remarkable group of posters in these 'Cane Threads...Kudos to all of you who are so well informed and sharing your data and opins!

Very helpful 'through' Irma, and again now with Nate.

Fwiw, our 7 month seasonal western NC Mtn Home is at 4,800 ft altitude on a East/Southeast facing mtn ridge, and Irma's remnants were not fun, though not as devastating to us or our area as Frances & Ivan were in 2004.

Nonetheless, it took a day to 'cut our way out' after Irma, and Nate's tendrils are already here with steady 45-55 mph winds, big gusts and sideways rains, at 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon.

At our elevation, the wind speeds seem to be exacerbated and we feel like a lighthouse perched on a cliff edge...it will not be a fun evening or night, up here.

We need 'some' rain, after being BoneDry since Irma, but not a half a foot and not another night of 80+ mph winds.

But, thank you to the very knowledgeable posters on this forum!

Nice spot to have! But of course not during a time like this. That elevation is very different from the surface! You should keep getting those 50mph+ sustained next several hours.

Keep us posted what happens. Stay safe "up there". The sound must be loud.

The center is going to pass West of you over TN tonight.

By sunrise, things should start easing up for you.

5:10pmEST map. Tornadoes in South Carolina. Power Outages near NC border. 4 inches of rain in Kentucky

Cambium, Thank you for the kind words, and esp for your posts!

Not 'Irma remnants strong' for this storm, but the night is young...

We are used to considerable wind speeds up here, but Irma was severe; almost 'Canes F & Ivan like.

We are tree surrounded, and the trees seem to brush off/absorb the steady 40-60s, but the gusts give them a serious workout. It will be branches, limbs and ankle deep leaf litter tomorrow when it slows down, but that is normal also. We all have one to several chain saws up here and we all get out of our coops and work on clearing our little private side roads and the main private road down our mtn.

No leaks in window wall today and while the house is rocking, it has stood up for 17+ years.

A drone shot of our joint on a normal summer day, and a nice sunrise view from our deck, looking E/SE...

All fine here at our Folly on the Ridge...
Less severe than Irma's remnants, and by this morning it was like, "Ah, it has passed."

Only took a few hours to clear driveway, private road, et al.

1st Class forum here! A cell pano pic from this morning's sunrise from our deck, post usual morning trudge up the mountain...
