I live in a part of Florida that has only had one direct hit from a Hurricane and that was Hurricane Donna in 1960. However, we have had some hit land within 30 miles of us over the years including Charley in 2004 which caused us not to have electricity for 3 days in some areas. My sister who lives in Ft. Myers had no electric for 2 weeks. Shortly after, they bought a whole house generator. Not having electricity in the middle of our hot & very humid summers is brutal.
I don't pay much attention to the predictions. What difference is it really going to make? I don't concern myself until we are in the "cone of uncertainty". LOL.
Ya, Cyclone Enawo looks to hit northeast Madagascar early Tuesday as a Cat3 or Cat4 US equivalent. Rains and flooding will be the biggest threat by Wednesday. Several days of rain ahead for Madagascar this week as it traverses southward across them.
Cyclone Enawo made landfall on the northeast coast of Madagascar at about 4amEST (noon local) or so as a Cat4 equivalent with winds of 145mph (1 minute satellite estimated average by JTWC) and higher gust. Will traverse down Madagascar bringing lots of rain, flooding will be a big concern through the remainder of this week.
Could see some action in the Atlantic next week. Waters are still cool for any larger storms but maybe enough for a name if it were to try and actually form.
Monday April 17, 2017: 30% chance of development storm in north-central Atlantic could become a subtropical storm system, but it's headed out East. Big wave maker and gale force winds for now. Well East of Bermuda currently. More: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov
