Big Island / Hawaii downgraded from Hurricane Warning to Tropical Storm Warning (winds 39+mph to less then 74mph) as hurricane force winds (74+mph) will stay well offshore. Hurricane Warning remains for Maui Co & Oahu, Hurricane Watch Kauai Co.
Hurricane force winds extend 35miles(55km) from center, Tropical Storm winds 125miles(205km). Still keeping it smaller wind field.

Side note: Sorry...the new GOES West satellite is in testing phase and not available yet (GOES16/GOESEast twin for the West coast / Pacific that can provide detailed imagery up to every 30seconds)...but they did manage to partially solve the cooling problem it developed so most of the imagery works again, but not operational yet. This link is for the older GOES West imagery it will eventually replace and only updates every 30minutes.
But partial ASCAT pass and microwave imagery pass that see's through the clouds/rain show a well defined inner core still, the advantage a once larger storm provides, good bones to try and last longer.

Updated cone map, notice the cone now does not cover most of the islands so storm center, although it could come close, is likely to remain offshore:
Over 30in of rain has fallen some portions of Big Island / Hawaii.
Wailuku River guage just outside of Hilo, Hi, to the West, in about 36hours it went from around 3ft to nearly 25ft, a rise of around 22ft, back down to near 20ft now.
Obs:
-USGS automated rain gage about 10miles West of Hilo, HI has received about 33inches since Wednesday, elevation 4,220ft.
-Wind obs courtesy NWS Honolulu:
--Kohala Ranch 67mph (Big Island)
--Kawaihae 64mph (Big Island)
--Lahaina 49mph (Maui)
--Kawailoa 51mph (Oahu)
Radar showing storm center may finally be eroding = good news. Apparently a weaker structure storm would be more likely to turn away sooner in the current setup keeping center further from islands, all be it still slowly and still bring heavy scattered rains. Time will tell though.
24Aug18 3aHST/6aPDT/9aEDT - seeing multiple reports of a brush fire on Maui near Lahaina prompting some evacuations middle of the night. Not the first time winds help spread a fire in a hurricane.

Radar shows Lane may be weakening rapidly - total decoupling of the inner core looks to be occurring (hurricanes like to be nice and tall from ocean surface to cloud tops, wind shear helps separate the layers and Lane's layers(low level circulation/ mid-level circulation, etc) may be separating(decoupling) = weakening).
The brush fire being fanned by Hurricane Lane around Lahaina on West coast of Maui has caused evacuations & additional road closures:
