This WEATHER HYPE is out of control. It's basically barely a cat 2 and weakening to cat 1 quickly and those winds are only nearly the eye. This is a concern for coastal areas of the carolinas which are used to this type of thing. If you build oceanfront you KNOW that it's only a matter of time and you shouldn't expect tax payers to bear the cost of rebuilding your million dollar vacation oceanfront home when the inevitable happens

All the ridiculous headlines about "MONSTER STORM" are completely ridiculous and clearly a ratings grab.

Seems like the "authorities" really blew this one. By the time this storm ever gets here it will be so dispersed as to amount to a wind and rain event over a large area, but no concentration of destruction over any one area. I could be wrong, but we have gone from category 5 to 4 to three to two to one and the thing hasn't arrived yet.

So, they got it wrong. Maybe be thankful for that in the sense that no one gets hurt.

But another cry of "wolf", and what happens if we ever need to move people ahead of a really dangerous storm? That is the danger that this storm and its handling has created. People who stayed originally were thought to be kooks. Now they look like the smart ones. What happens when their "stand' is the wrong move because people no longer trust the forecasts? It has been decades of warning, but no catastrophic storm.

Simply put, our science needs to get better, Our forecasts need to get better, because some day, people WILL get killed from decades of ignoring forecasts of danger which have turned out to be non events.

At first, it was looking like a Category 4 landfall, which is a big deal. Despite the weakening strength this will still be quite the rain maker. Allison was tropical storm strength when she caused 41 deaths and $8.5 billion damage on American soil.

New Bern, NC is flooding.

Just got a tweet from NWS Raleigh that the outer bands are arriving here and showing signs of rotation and to stay alert for tornado warnings.

I'm OK with the coverage. You just have to take breaks from it and realize it's a fluid situation.

It was big and seriously dangerous and you can't wait until the last day to wait and see and then decide to leave if you have to. The roads would be parking lots.
How many hurricanes did disintegrate this much when so close to landfall?
Maybe old Pat Robertson did pray it away

Yes you can't wait till last day to evacuate local nearshore areas, but this national media attention was overblown

It's not only a concern for the coastal areas of the Carolinas. I'm near Charlotte and we are supposed to get a significant amount of rain with flooding. Winds too but the part to worry about is the flooding.

Sandy was a Cat 1 when it struck NY and it did significant damage. It's not the wind that is going to cause the most damage it's the storm surge and the flooding.

Tell that to the people that are going to get flooding and significant amounts of rain from this storm. That's the danger of this storm the storm surge and flooding.
