NOAA43 & NOAA49 (Miss Piggy & Gonzo) Hurricane Hunters will both depart from Barbados at 8aEDT/AST to fly into and around Lorenzo Friday. Likely the one and only chance to fly through and collect actual data before it gets out of range.

Lorenzo. That is one badassed name. The take-your-lunch-money hurricane. The blindside-quarterback-sack hurricane.
Meanwhile, if it's anything like the Karen that used to work for me, it will show up late, leave early, not do much work, and talk about its cats all day.

Fri 27Sept 11aEDT/AST,12pADT: Estimated winds 140mph(220km/h), moving NNW 14mph(22km/h), pressure 943mb. Hurricane hunters are just on outskirts of storm but still awhile before they reach peak winds near center, storm doesn’t look as healthy as last night, likely peaked.

Gonzo was able to fly outskirts of storm as planned. Miss Piggy was supposed to fly thru for readings but was re-tasked for search & rescue ops in South side of storm as a ship, Bourbon Rhode with 14 aboard, was caught in the storm and last heard from taking on water. Not much word past that at the moment.

Reason: Probably good idea to include 100’s place on wind speed

Sat 28Sept 5aEDT/AST,6aADT: Estimated winds 115mph(115km/h), moving NNW 10mph(17km/h), pressure 957mb. Continues to weaken in the face of wind shear. May threaten The Azores and/or UK region in the coming days. Hurricane Hunters are getting another chance at investigating Lorenzo today. Don't know if they be tasked with helping find that missing ship or not yet.

Sat 28Sept 5pEDT/AST,6pADT: Winds 130mph(215km/h), moving N 10mph(17km/h), pressure 950mb. Back to Cat4. Storm went through an ERC (eyewall replacement cycle) and was able to restrengthen. Should gradually weaken and in a few days transition to basically a large North Atlantic Low pressure system.
