Mon 7Sept 5pEDT/AST,8pCVT(GMT-1) Tropical Storm Rene forms (formally 93L & TD18) just off NW Africa over the Cape Verde islands. Earliest "R" storm on known record (previous record: 'Rita' 18Sept of the crazy 2005 season). (There's no "Q" on the names list this storm gets the "R" name)
Estimated winds 40mph(65km/h), moving WNW 12mph(19km/h), pressure 1001mb
Located about 115miles(180km) E of Cape Verde Islands, near Boa Vista now.
TS Winds extend up to 45mph(75km) from center.
Steady strengthening thru most of the week expected, hurricane possible this week. Likely turns out to sea eventually, but will watch for any surprises.
TS Warnings for Cape Verde Islands where TS winds (39+mph) and 2-5inches(50-125mm) rain possible.

Pulling away from Cape Verde islands, TS Warnings canceled. A blob of scattered storms at the moment but still forecast to become a hurricane this week and eventually turn North over open waters.

The NHC forecast cone now has a left hand turn by early next week as turn North is blocked by High pressure. Several models dissipate the storm just after this though.
