Indian Harbour Beach (city, traffic, ground, South)

If living in Indian Harbour, where would be the best place to run during a hurricane? Titusville? Deland?
I know that there will be a time when told to evacuate *sp?
Just want to get a heads up on where to go. A hotel north I thought would be a better option than a shelter due to having pets and I will not leave them behind!

I take it by your location that you are in an evacuation zone......

The last place you want to go to is a shelter... they are very very uncomfortable and should be a place of last resort.

Your best bet is to evacuate into the Orlando area away from the coast. I guess a hotel anywhere along Route 192 heading to Orlando would be fine.

Don't forget to take all your supplies with you....
Flashlights, Battery Operatted Radio or TV, Extra batteries, Battery Operated Lantern
Pet food, etc.

Go inland and the on the other direction of the hurricane. Yes you will have sufficient time to evacuate, get a plan (many checklist in this forum) check the city/county evacuation plan.

Decide now if you want a hotel or a shelter. If you decide on the hotel, contact them now find out about cancellation policy and if they accept pets (if you have pets), upon notification of a hurricane coming your way make a reservation early and if you don't need the hotel cancel before you get any charges.

I have 2 hotel on my list, the have a 2 hour cancellation policy and they accept pets. So depending on the direction of the hurricane and category I will make my decision with plenty of time.

As a previous person stated get away from the water and hide from the wind. Yes you can head inland towards Orlando but don't wait until the mandatory evacuation if you can help it. When Francis headed to just south of Melbourne in 2004 we went 192 towards Orlando with our destination being Ocala - the traffic was horendous!! It took almost 5 hours to get to the destination but only 2 1/2 hours to return to our home. Since then we have put shutters on the windows and will stay our ground unless a cat5 is coming for us. It was not a good experience that is for sure. The hotel we had decided to stay was having 'brown-outs' before the hurricane 'hit'. If you are prepard for the worse (but hope for the best) you will be fine.
