This thread will be dedicated to tropical cyclones that develop across the Eastern Pacific hurricane basin in 2008. I felt that it is necessary for each basin to have their own thread due to the potential for several conflicting storms at once to occur, especially later in the hurricane season.

Here is a list of the names given to any cyclone that reaches tropical storm strength courtesy of the National Hurricane Center:
Quote:
Alma
Boris
Cristina
Douglas
Elida
Fausto
Genevieve
Hernan
Iselle
Julio
Karina
Lowell
Marie
Norbert
Odile
Polo
Rachel
Simon
Trudy
Vance
Winnie
Xavier
Yolanda
Zeke
Alma was the only storm that has developed as of June 8th, 2008 and was the first tropical storm to make landfall across the western portions of Central America in recorded history.

Currently, there is one area of focus for the potential of tropical cyclone development along the southwestern edge of Mexico. This area raises a cause for concern has there is a strong convective flareup showing signs of broad low level circulation. As soon as there is a closed center of circulation, we will have a Tropical Depression on our hands. Should this reach Tropical Storm strength, it's name will be Boris. Regardless, this system will move eastward and produce torrential rains leading to major flooding and landslides across Southwestern Mexico and Central America.
