Praying for you and the other residents as ya'll "batten down the hatches." I'm praying it will be much weaker than predicted.

Ike has to be the largest storm I've ever seen...It almost takes up the whole Gulf...seems like they are predicting cat 4 level storm surges b/c of it's size...good luck to everyone in the path of the storm. Hopefully, no one is staying in Galveston, b/c it looks like the surge will go over your sea wall. The Weather Channel also has said that the surge will be 20' as far north as Port Arthur, and their sea wall is only 14'...Yikes, prayers are with you all.
Also, hopefully, the refiniries aren't messed up too bad, they are already predicting a huge spike in gas prices, just what we all need.

Also, most of that seawall in Galveston has about 6 feet or so of sand built up at the bottom of it, making it effectively shorter.

Latest trends show Ike strengthening at this time.

It's strengthening just a bit~105 mph right now so it could hit a low Cat 3 by the time it hits. It's still heading right for Galveston.

Prayers are with you all. I don't understand why some people aren't leaving and why there telling some people to stay put After Katrinia I reallt was impressed with what they did in the areas with Gustav. I 'm really worried that there will be loss of lives because some didn't leave or was told to leave. With a storm this big you don't know what it can do.

This has to be the most dire warning I've ever seen!

"All neighborhoods and possibly entire coastal communities will be inundated during the period of peak storm tide," the National Hurricane Center said late Thursday, referring to land along the Galveston Bay.
"Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single family one- or two-story homes will face certain death," it said.

AFP: Dire warning, evacuations as Ike eyes Texas
