We have larger pieces of furniture on the lanai that we move into the house through sliders and then other furniture and objects around the pool can be put in the lanai. Folding or stackable chairs are great; all my table chairs are foldable, the table has butterfly extensions and can be made smaller for storing and two Adirondack chairs that also fold.
The worst part of preparing for Irma was moving all my potted plants. I didn’t realize how they had multiplied. Too many were heavy and not easy to move. After moving them outside after the storm passed, I planted many of the larger ones into the ground. I learned my lesson.
Depending on how Florence goes, if it looks like it will hit our area (Charlotte, NC) with high winds, we'll be moving our patio furniture into our shed on Friday. As for my container plants, the six I have in the front will be tucked up against the house behind our hedges, and the ones in the back will be moved up against our shed.
Does anyone know how heavy a piece of furniture has to be to be considered hurricane resistant? Is the a formal statute or code in Florida?
I have a solid teak patio bar on the way. It’s going against the warm by the pool and weighs about 200 lbs empty. With the stone top and refrigerator, figure 375 lbs or so.
Considering that high wind speeds and just the right angle can move a car, 375 lbs isn't that heavy.

That should be more than fine. I had pots tucked behind a post near my front door and Irma came storming right overhead. No problems.
