Every year we get predictions for the new hurricane season. I for one pay them no mind. What we get is what we get. Hind sight is 20/20. It pays to be prepared as if 50 are going to make landfall and then not worry what the pros are thinking or why they are thinking it. They have a job to do that is not humanly possible to know how may hurricanes will form or where they will go.

Your thoughts?

I swear I read a prediction saying something to this effect: it's going to be an average season with 25% chance of being above average and 25% chance of being below average! WTH is THAT?! And somebody gets paid to come up with this nonsense?! I can do it, too!

Any job related to meteorology is a dream job! You screw up almost every single day, there's no responsibility whatsoever, and you make good money! Can't beat it!

I can't say I take much attention to it, to an extent they can predict things which will affect whether tropical waves off Africa will develop into anything big.

Obviously I don't worry about how they say 'there will be 5 hurricanes, 2 major' , but there is a heap of stuff I do listen to like 'wind shear predications, African dust predictions etc, all what can contribute to storms developing or not developing.

I'm sure they're educated in weather patterns, but predicting hurricanes 6 months out is quite a stretch IMO! I don't believe them either.

General predictions? No. But I love this site Tropical Weather... Done Better!™ because they show all kinds of information for current storms.

They really need to stop those pre season predictions, people that have been in a hurricane prone area know they never get it right. Maybe it helps those new to the area.
