Yeah...kinder, gentler planet is correct. AZ has become a boiling cauldron of anger and fear and mistrust...especially in the southern parts. And not because of Joe Arpaio

Gotta get together some day...and I'm happy to hear you got a job where the elephants are kind!
Are you going to the shindig I'm hearing about? Yes PLEASE take some seeds, I think it's time for me to start looking for a Gardeners Anonymous group. My kids do intervention in the Spring trying to get me away from the seed packets when we shop, and isn't having your mom constantly looking for baby trees and seeds when she visits your friends kind of embarrassing?

I used to ask things like: are they guns in your home? how are they stored? who else lives there? Alcohol?

Now I ask: what kind of tree's and bushes do you have on your property?

Ahhhh.....this IS the life.

Shindig? Shindig? I am clueless.

My property was stupidly cleared by the builder (why do they do that? Eejits!!!) so I brought in three BIG trees from Grace Tree Farms...two blue spruce, both at least 15' - 18' tall, and one ten foot Frasier Pine for the front. Cost me a small fortune but...that's life. Also put in three aspen trees in back for summer shade, and five small local fir trees scattered about...planted four fruit trees (apple, plum, cherry and pear), and ran a LOT of raspberry bushes along the chain link fence in back. I only have 1/3 acre so I have to be careful not to get too carried away. My old home in Arizona was a forest of trees...which is not wise in the desert because you spend ALL your time watering them!

I brought hollyhock seeds with me from AZ and tried to get them to sprout and grow here but...no luck. I guess they hate Idaho

Namaste!!!

"Shindig" refers to Trace's plans last spring of doing a "hoot 'n shoot" CDF gettogether, but there just wasn't time this summer. So we're leaning on him to make it happen next year! Trace, no pressure, buddy --it isn't like we can't find some good Idaho restaurant for a CDF party next summer! In that case I vote for the Best Western in Orofino, on the huge deck by the Clearwater! Chris (Shades) and Desertryder already had a mini-meet earlier this summer, Trace and I hung out for a couple hours, and didn't Cleosmom and Joox meet? Norcalmom, Joox is our new Idaho Falls member from Sweden. So I think we may be kind of ready for a 2011 CDF Idaho party!

Is Orofino where the teen law enforcement career camp is? Or maybe I see state DOC jobs posted for there? I'm clueless too, past my bedtime. HOOT N SHOOT sounds like a hoot!!!

Hollyhocks will do fine here (zone 4 at least, and they will reseed), esselcue, but they need dirt. I'm worried about your dirt situation.

Oops shoulda kept quiet! They are on FB, keeping reminding me and I'll get them posted here. Last year was a gigantic veg garden, this year I'm all about flowers. Arugula too, I'd die without it, and radishes, they make my neighbors happy. In order for the garden pictures to really have significance, you'd have to see my 110 year old roof, tree stumps, waist high dry weeds, and other horrors. Man have I been working hard!

Cleosmom, I can't even coordinate how many times we've had pizza, apparently. Just another one of my early onset senior moments. Did I mention they won't let me play bingo or take an art class at the Senior Center? They did let me feed myself....

Joox, you might be interested in an eclectic group of people called "Drinking Liberally." I'm not up for politics, but a liberal drink every now and then can't hurt. Let me know if you want me to figure out where this diverse group is currently gathering. For me, being from the SF Bay Area and a little timid about what I thought was a lack of diversity, they eased the transition. You might even find a coworker or two there. These awesome folks showed up en masse to welcome me to Idaho by meeting me in person and helping me make a dent in my trashed abandoned home so I could see the dirt and get working.

Welcome to Idaho!!!
