Also, knew the HazMat specialist for St. George - let's just say he was very busy shutting down hotel rooms and various apartments, for the meth that was being proceduced.

Many don't know this about St. George. But, locals and those who have worked in the area know how much drug business there is. St. George connects Las Vegas with Salt Lake City and in some ways, also Denver.

Not trying to dump on St. George, it's just a city, much like Ogden, UT where crime is so much higher, given certain activities and populations who have located there, it's hard to compare crime in Idaho Falls to that in Ogden.
OK, I know this has nothing to do with Idaho Falls, but I just had to chime in and say that St George was rated THE safest city in America last year. (2007)

The police and the community must be addressing and taking care of the problem.

I lived and operated businesses in Idaho Falls and Pocatello for 21 years and recently returned (after a 10 year absence) to fulfill a consulting contract. Honestly, not much has changed and if you love the outdoors; hiking, fishing, hunting in natures paradise, you will love it. As far as violent crime, there is very little to fear. I feel safe virtually any where in town. A plus is that guns are an excepted part of life in Idaho and it is very easy to get a permit if you have no criminal record and will take a course on Gun Handling and safety. Violent crime and property crime in the region (and there is not much) is almost entirely among the drug dealing element, who are mostly Hispanic (OK, I said it, I'm a realist, not a racist), and it is nearly exclusive one against another. The greatest area of bigotry and discrimination comes from some of the Mormons (but not all), especially when it comes to getting work. If you don't wear the special underwear, you won't get the job.
