We are moving to Idaho Falls in the next few months. Are there any areas to avoid as far as crime, etc. We will be renting a house for a year to start and husband travels about 50-75% of time for job. I want to be in a nice area with low crime with the kids while he is gone.

I suggest contacting some Idaho Falls realtors before you move. They can give you a very good picture of what the home rental situation is at the moment, what rentals would be best for your family (especially in regards to schools, churches, etc.), and which areas are more affordable than others. They'll also tell you which areas they recommend to avoid.

Really, what areas to avoid would depend on you and your concerns mostly. Idaho Falls is a pretty safe town overall, by Idaho standards, and Idaho standards are 'leave your car keys in the car overnight' kind of standards. I know folks in I.F. who lost their house key years ago and never missed it because they don't lock their doors. Nobody in town ever locked their doors here when I was growing up.

A lot does depend on the ages of your kids and whether you'll be using public schools, private or home schooling. Of course having pets matter too, they are not too many that will rent to those with pets. Don't get me wrong, there are some, but they are hard to find.

We are homeschoolers, have been for the past 6 years. Kids range in age from 16 down to 6 months old. We have 8 of them. We are NOT Mormons, good ole Southern Baptists.

You might consider telling the realtor you do not want to live by Mormons.

Would that be a problem, living by Mormons? Do I need to worry about not being Mormon? Would we not be accepted?
