Driving east on 17th past Hitt this weekend and noticed that several places were closed, or at least the parking lots were empty. Even the Jamba Juice near Albertsons was closed! I'd say let's make a list of places that are closed on Sundays (kind of like the list of wifi locations), but it might be just as easy to make a list of places that are actually open!

I understand that Chick-Fil-A has a national policy to be closed on Sundays, but what's up with all of the other stores and eateries that are closed on Sundays?

It is not at all uncommon for a place to be closed on a Sunday here. In fact, when I get a new client calling they basically assume we're closed on Sundays.

While on the Sunday subject, if the 4th of July falls on Sunday, or Halloween, might as well plan on it to be celebrated on either Saturday or Monday depending on the city/town you're in.

Speaking of the Wi-Fi, help us add some. All the McDonald's offer it.

Go for it tmp4, start a list of what isn't open on Sunday. It will help others.

I think every grocery store is in Idaho Falls. Broulims may not be in Rigby and Shelley.

Major pharmacies, that don't do the IV mixtures or compounding kind of things, are all open albeit usually shorter hrs., but that happens everywhere.

I look forward to what appears in this thread

When I got here I noticed the same. From what I was told, Sunday was a no work day for the mormans. Is that fire? If so ide assume that why nothing is open. Or have I gotten bad info? In my big city experience, most if not all businesses stayed open on weekend except for gov entities.....

Mormons try to not do "elective work" on Sunday. But things like hospitals, Fire Dept, PD etc. have to be staffed. There are also some support services that have to be open.

As the population has grown and diluted the percentage of LDS, more businesses are open on Sunday but usually with shorter hrs. Although I found one of them, might be Best Buy or something that was actually open here LONGER than metro areas.

Once again, I'm thrilled for this thread as I disappear for weeks or months at a time when somebody who is CLUELESS about facts posts personal opinions and/or old data to say eastern ID is FULL of LDS. That just isn't true.

Like anything else, the business owner or franchisee, has the option of which days his/her business will be open.

I look forward to seeing this thread GROW!

As I work at a pet boarding facility, the owner elected to be open for a few hours on Sundays to make it an easier transition for folks who need to be at work on Monday morning.

Smart move. Many will be open a few hours as a service to clients.

I really wanted to try Scotty's Drive-In last night (for the first time) but they were closed when I drove by at 6:30pm. Do they have special hours on Sundays, or are they closed all day?

Luckily, Tom's Gyros & Burgers was open and I enjoyed my first time there.

MSR is on the money.
While some Mormon-owned businesses are closed all day Sunday, many are open with shorter hours. Even more are open with the same hours as any other day of the week.

Remember that Idaho Falls is a service center for a huge area. People come here from a 200 mile diameter to shop, be entertained or to receive needed services or goods that can't be found where they live. The smaller towns around I.F. may close their doors, but not here. In this way, Idaho Falls is like a smaller version of Salt Lake City with slightly more liberal drinking laws.

A little tip:
A good time to do needed weekend grocery shopping is during the hours of 9 to 11:00 a.m. While we don't have as many Mormons as we used to, they still go to church. By noon, grocery aisles can be packed.

Yeah, get used to it in I.F. Many retail establishments close all day Sunday. However, Wal-Mart is open, and that is the only day I will shop there. The number of shoppers is 50% less (an educated guess), than the same time on a Saturday.

Most fast food places are also open on Sunday, except for Chic-Fil-A, who closes all locations throughout the U.S. on Sundays.

Teton Mall is open on Sunday, but their hours are a little more restrictive, and not all stores are open. Liquor stores are closed in Bonneville and Bingham Counties, but there are are atleast three that are open in Bannock Co. (Pocatello).

OK, one last tease. New Hong Kong, one of the best of its genre is also open on Sunday evenings. (I ordered this past Sunday and had an excellent meal).
