I'm entertaining some out-of-towners this weekend and I'd like to take them to a non-chain restaurant for dinner on Thursday night. Hoping for a nice place along the river or near the falls. I saw a nice looking place with a back deck, but didn't catch the name. Thanks!

You can read individual diners' reviews/ comments on restaurants, on both these sites http://www.yelp.com and Reviews of Hotels, Flights and Vacation Rentals - TripAdvisor .

I enjoy both of those resources -- use them quite often.

However, when I search "riverfront" or "waterside" the only hit in Yelp is Smitty's, and that's not exactly what I had in mind. Thanks for the help though.

The Sandpiper is just upriver from the falls and is an old local favorite steakhouse. Their food is excellent, and there's a wonderful deck that faces the river.

That might have been it. Is it right beside a hotel, and the long narrow back deck is a few feet from the canal and a few hundred feet from the river?

Yup. The river isn't that far away, but everything else in your memory is accurate.
The Sandpiper is an excellent choice for an adult dinner out.

Perfect. Thanks! Prices look reasonable too. I think that's the winner.

Now I just need to find a great place to eat in Jackson and somewhere along the Yellowstone loop

The Sandpiper is what I was going to suggest as well.
