As I already stated in another topic, I'm a remote worker that is planning to move to Idaho Falls thanks to low costs and safety. Do I need a car to live there to fulfil the basic needs (shopping, groceries, etc) or does the public transportation covers the most important areas and needs?

You need your own transportation. What was the walkable score on Zillow where you plan to buy/rent?

If you're looking to rent, you could choose one of the condo/townhouse complexes in Ammon and be within walking distance to the mall, Target, a supermarket, and lots of other shopping.

There really is no public transportation to speak of here

The general answer is no. There is limited bus transportation, but it certainly is not a major transit system like you would find in bigger cities.

If you have a bike, sure it is. I love it here because everything is so close. 5 minutes to the grocery shopping, 10 minutes to downtown, (if its trafficky), but you can get pretty much anywhere pretty easily with a bike. I do recommend getting a car though. If you're on a budget, used cars are pretty inexpensive compared to other states. Well, actually it's the price of what used cars are supposed to be. We found a Toyota LandCruiser for $1500 compared to other states, (not going to mention which one), but we bought the same year and condition for $6500 and that was considered a deal. Here, I've seen really nice ones for $3000 and good ones for about $1300 and up. We're from out-of-state and we can't imagine being anywhere else. SO pretty here. SOO pretty! Good Luck to you!
