Congratulations to East Idaho News on two Edward R. Murrow awards. In their first year this news site has generated a lot of interest, some of the best in market reporting, in my opinion, and more. It will be interesting to see what changes come with adding a camera in a studio. It's also interesting to me, though this might seem subtle to some, EIN has a separate entrance from the radio stations.

Other awards have been won, but Edward R. Murrow - impressive

The local market radio ratings period ends this Friday. I haven't listened much; however, given what I know, the official charts don't matter.

To me, the big winner is Sandhill Media's KSNA 100.7 FM. More importantly it's all the Sandhill D. J.s and other employees who have stood by local on air personality, Dusty Bee, as he has had three more brain surgeries in about 70 days. All were during the ratings period. It speaks highly of co-workers who step up to cover shifts etc. as he hopefully recovers from the surgeries and his remaining infection is now being treated through a PICC line.

Best wishes to Dusty Bee and great job other Sandhill employees

Check out Facebook and Dusty Bee if you want to know more. He thanked his colleagues. It's impressive.

Default Donations for KVUI..... Is this a New Practice?

There are lots of media posts. A lot of things are going on but I'll limit this post to something I've never seen anywhere I've lived previously.

KPVI has a sub-channel KVUI which broadcasts MeTV programs. It promotes itself as "East Idaho's Family Channel."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVUI

We know KPVI closed their Idaho Falls bureau. There could be more reasons than one for that, but I do remember posting it here as I've not seen a TV station close an office previously. There was no comment of their reason for only a Pocatello office.

A few weeks ago I saw something I thought was an error. As I DVR one program from that station I have the opportunity to repeat programs and ads. I've seen the same ad three more times in the past week.

KVUI is asking for donations so they can keep this "Family Friendly" station on the air. Say what? This is a private broadcast company.

I've seen multiple campaigns for various Public Television Stations in various
states. There is nothing similar about any Public TV Station fund raising campaign vs. what KVUI is doing.

Has anyone ever seen this before on a privately owned network? I can't find a Web page for KVUI. Perhaps earlier call sign Web pages still exist. I believe there is a Facebook page. It matters as apparently one option is to click on the page to donate. I can't find it on KPVI or elsewhere.

How come Buckalew Media wouldn't work harder to get more advertisers vs. ask for donations?

I look forward to your thoughts! Thanks.

I guess this is the KVUI webpage where one can donate.

Your thoughts?

So KID has applied to move the city of licensure to Aberdeen from decades in Idaho Falls. That doesn't mean much except Aberdeen being the first town/city identified. Two other questions.

Would Rich Broadcasting and "others" involved being trying to cover the Cassia and maybe Twin Falls area with this move? Programming to stay the same. Secondly, Rich has available frequencies, do you see them adding another station? If so, what, a sports network or other?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Default Frank Sen and Probably Sandhill Media buy KAOX in Shelley

Frandsen Media, owner of Sandhill Media, has purchased an silent FM in Shelley, KAOX. What I find interesting about this acquisition is part of the deal was paying for upgrades and changes at KNYN, in WY, KLZW in West on, ID and founded group FM station KGNT in Smithfield (Logan), UT. I recall posting about additional radio station vans I saw outside of Sandhill Media that were in Smithfield/Logan, yet the vans were licensed in 8B, in this thread months ago.

It sounds like Sandhill/Frandsen Media will be adding a station here.

Anything else this purchase and terms for the three other stations could mean something different?

The "Frank Sen" absolutely is one more auto correct than I caught. It was suppose to be Frandsen Media. I wish my auto correct moved at the speed of my brain.

My sources tell me that Riverbend's AM stations have dropped their news/talk formats and are now airing "Sounds of Sunday", an LDS influenced music format. Huge news in the media market, as this leaves Rich Broadcasting as the only news/talk station in the market. The East Idaho News website is still in existence, but appears to be separate from Riverbend, but perhaps still under the control of Mr. VanderSloot.

There is actually a lot of media news. BSU sports are now at Rich Broadcasting. BYU games are broadcast on 100.7, a Sandhill Media station.

Rich and Sandhill are clearly making moves. BTW, they probably should with Riverbend taking the top 4 spots in ratings. Rich got the 5th spot with KID or whatever the call letters are. Rich simulcast currently the talk news on one AM and two FMS.

IDK if you were attempting to answer my question from before or you were simply making a comment. If Rich continues to be the only Broadcast Media with talk, would that be a valid reason to change their licensing and have Aberdeen as the first city listed? This is not a ho hum move. In the public notice, besides Rich Broadcasting and Rich Mecham, there were > 30 individuals and corporations named as being involved. I've never seen any notice of permit like that previously.

Please help me and others understand how come it's such big news for Riverbend to not have talk on a.m. Eastidahonews.com is a great website. Yes, they have been separate from the radio stations and mostly separate in content for maybe a year. KLCE will post a few of their headlines but that is about it. I posted about East Idaho News moving when I saw it. East Idaho News moved further east in the same building. EIN clearly has their own entrance , staff and were reportedly building a studio. Most of their stuff is on YouTube but I wonder if their goal is to broadcast from their studio online one or two times daily? Nate Eaton who started as a TV reporter here came back from VA to run EIN. You can see the Murrows they won, along with other awards. I saw a live broadcast maybe three weeks ago with Nate Eaton broadcasting. I'm not aware of any ownership changes. Could this be headed for Facebook Live or something similar? Your thoughts?

It seems to me Sandhill is moving a station here from Frandsen/CacheValley Media in Logan. Otherwise, I don't understand the purchase of another station and all the changes I listed above. Maybe talk? I don't listen to Country Music but I think those who do were shocked that The Breakfast Boys were replaced. Kenny S. went back to Utah and maybe to remain in radio (I knew I'd heard his name on SLC airwaves before). He clearly wasn't expecting this. J. B. is very entertaining at times on the Arrow in the afternoons. He says a few things that absolutely crack me up. It's easy to hear how his wife must have coached him where to end certain comments so they remain in good taste. They are still funny!

Lots of movement in media. I think East Idaho News helped close KPVI's I.F. location. I don't claim to understand KPVI and their Sub channel, KVUI, with the whole donation thing.

What's interesting about you posting today is the Christmas vignettes added about three years ago started today on one or more stations. I'm blitzing on the gentleman's name. They brought back a lot of memories.

Any clarity you can add would be appreciated

I don't really understand your post. The AM's from Riverbend were side by side with East Idaho News. They have separated.

No news/talk from Riverbend is big news, because they have offered this for well over a decade.

East Idaho News has nothing to do with KPVI.

Bottom line, the Riverbend AM's were not cutting it with ratings. So they made a decision to run Sounds of Sunday. Perhaps a much less expensive route.

I didn't know how long Riverbend offered the news. I wasn't here then.

Of course KPVI and Riverbend aren't connected. I'll try this again and if it isn't clear perhaps someone else can explain better. So many people opt for EIN vs. TV news, I find it interesting as EIN started and expanded to more staff in more locations, KPVI condensed. Nate Eaton posted the numbers. He's been interviewed for CNN and other national news. Their coverage is much more thorough.

I understand your last sentence but am not sure about your first one given what I wrote. Will you please try your first sentence again as I'm missing something. As I wrote earlier, yes, EIN is separate from the radio stations now. A separate entrance and room for a studio east of the stations. I'm not sure how the AMs connect currently with EIN except what was is no longer. There isn't AM news of what EIN is reporting.

Otherwise, I don't understand.
