Mike, or others working on media towers or knows about these things, I hope you can answer a question. (Anyone who knows please answer). There is a radio broadcasting company in town that has repeated static on at least four of its stations. I've called before and they could resolve it. However, I don't call anymore as they go back to static the next rain/snow we get or even dry days. It's not my job to make sure they can be heard. So much for the absent 12/6 KUPI broadcast the fireworks. I've had very negative consequences letting that group know they were off the air!!

That group will not hear from me about their static or being off the air again from me. It happens frequently - - their static - - at least monthly. It's not storm dependent but often is static after we've had one.

Good thing KLCE broadcasts the 4th Cebration It can actually be heard everywhere.

Mike or others who know, what would be the deal a 5-6 radio station group can fix static but it won't remain fixed? Yet when I called competition Rich Broadcasting, I was politely thanked for calling and when they fixed the static it remained fixed. Is it personnel and training who technically don't know what to do, are missing the real problem for some quick fix or is where their towers are located or other? This happens for miles not just one spot. Perhaps techs don't really care and finish what they think the problem is ASAP, IDK.

I do know there are a few ways to make sure people don't listen to your stations and static is one.

Thanks to those who can explain this to me! Maybe it's all the new Verizon Towers being built.

Default A different side of P! NK

Cleosmom,

You got me to listen to her. I stumbled upon this gem and hope you like it.

Cuz I do.

What local radio station plays more than their top pop or AC to play this? Some of the younger artists are doing wonderful covers of classics.

I like it alright as it is Pink, but I prefer her original stuff as she is the one that writes most of her music. That is what is lacking today, true artists

AMEN! You know what I think of most of the new artists. There is a lot of truth in what you write, Cleosmom, IMO. True artists can write either the music, lyrics or both to original music as well as perform covers. Good point

Question Letterman's Last Shows and Guests

Shouldn't we be seeing the end of Letterman's shows? If so, anyone want to guess who his guests will be?

Cool Familiar

Listening to a local station at night. There have been some day changes recently and I rarely listen. While a computer determines what is played I still say there are differences in who programs. Is this a VT? Maybe. I know I haven't liked an hour this much for a while. There is an ebb and flow that reminds me of some of my favorite radio.

Thanks to whoever started tonight off with such great songs. NMW!

Question Still Wondering Which Station Would Play Covers Weekly at Least?

For having three locally/regionally owned cluster of stations, I wish one would do something different and program covers maybe at a set time weekly. Lots of great covers have equaled or surpassed the originals. A lot of people don't even recognize the same song done by others.

I really like this P! NK cover of the James Taylor hit.

Here are a couple of other covers I like and I've gotten a bunch of comments on in music - - meaning it's more than just me.

Lady Antebellum with Stevie Nicks with Landslide

And Need You Now

Plus one I've never posted here as I only found it about a month ago. Day after Day by Savatage (Original was by Badfinger)

Check this out -

I hope one of the three radio clusters will consider covers some weekly if not daily.

You have to remember, covers have been around for eons. It's simply now they've been given a title. Pick a song and Google it and I'm sure you'll come up with more than one artist that's sang it, take Run Around Sue for example.

Cleosmom,

I totally agree with you. Some songs have been covered by 10 artists or more. The songs can sound so different depending on their genre, solo vs. Group etc.

Additionally, Song Titles are the one thing that even if Copyrighted other artists can use the same name totally different song. Off the top of my head I've counted something like 6 who have a "Lady" in their catalogues including Styx, Little River Band, Kenny Rogers and another artist I can't think of right now. I've often thouhht it would be interesting to have a "Lady" Hour to see which one I liked the most.

So are you proposing more time or what is your idea? I was trying to pick just a few examples that might fit into various formats in town. Getting more covers and some history or factoids about the various artists would be great with me.

Any station who would like to develop my idea, let me know so we're clear how that could work here.

Question Radio Seems to be Making Changes Prior to Spring Ratings

It appears KLCE will be getting a new midday host. I don't know the reason for that change, although if I've read things correctly on their website, they air three hrs. of Dave Ramsay daily. I like Dave Ramsay, although I don't listen to him on KLCE. I think he has a lot of common sense. However, I couldn't listen to 30 min. day let alone three hours.

What this change will or won't for Amy Taylor, IDK. I don't listen to that channel I simply saw the announcement. Anyone who might know more, please add what you can.

I think/know KLCE has lost listeners to other stations. Got to get the strongest line up for Spring Ratings.

Also, Star 98 keeps advertising for a PD. Is that still accurate, or have they not found the right person yet? This could be a very interesting Spring radio Ratings Period.

Some don't really realize how many with decades of broadcasting experience are moving to cities like Idaho Falls as the media Giants, Cumulus, CBS and others will buy a station in a much larger city and then terminate most or all of the staff. They replace with Simulcasts or Syndicated programming leaving a lot of on air talent without jobs. Some of those who love broadcasting are relocating in smaller cities.

As always, it will be an interesting process to watch.
