So news last week was sale of the Brady family-owned Post Register was going to happen. Now silence for a week.

Any thoughts anyone?

No one knows yet. They're keeping all the names private until the deal is done, and it's still under negotiation. My guess is it's Gannett, but that's only a guess. It could be McKatchley or any number of other possibilities.
Or none at all. The owners can always decide to turn them all down and just continue on.

Unlike last year, there are no ties in local radio ratings this past spring. What's slightly interesting to me, besides the solid bloc of three Sandhill Media stations, is Sandhill appeared to stop promos and contests after about a month. I don't know the exact dates as I haven't listened to much radio unless I'm driving.

Some kind of interesting results as #1 and #2 had decreased points, but still won. Newbie #3 came from a different county and organization.

1. Z103 was the clear first place winner in Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Rexburg/Rigby. Hard to believe we get chopped up into three radio markets in E. Idaho for ratings, but we do. Congratulations Riverbend

The remainder will be the top seven in Idaho Falls only (since it is the largest market of the three):

2. KID-AM/ KEGE - FM - Rich (Almost 3 points lower than 2014, but landed in second place with Talk Radio).

3. KBYI-FM - BYU-Idaho (New to top 10) A university station at BYU-IDAHO in Rexburg.

4. KCVI- FM - - K-BEAR Riverbend ( Second big climber besides KBYI of the top 5).

5. KUPI-FM - Sandhill Media - (Consistent top 5 and highest C&W with a small increase this year).

6. KSNA -FM - Sandhill Media (Both KUPI-FM and KSNA (MyFM ) were programmed by Will Johnson)

7. KQEO-FM -Sandhill Media (yes, different PDs do program differently - and The Arrow dropped a bit this year).

8. KLCE -FM - Riverbend (Usually in top 5. A half point lower than 2014, but not the Riverbend station in the top 5 in 2015, as it has been for many years).

9. KTHK-FM - Riverbend (The Hawk, I believe. New Country is how they identify).

10. KISU - FM- Idaho State University (Also gained points like KBYI in the North).

Some interesting things to think about when two university stations land in the top 10.

It's good to finally see these. Congrats to those who achieved their goals

It looks like Sandhill Media is still looking for on-air talent. Have to have three years experience and more.

The formats still aren't posted. But, there is the addition being added at Sandhill on the south...

Stay tuned, I guess. Sandhill clearly wants more live and local on air talent. With the changes KLCE has gone through, Sandhill could potentially place higher next year. Or, KLCE needs to add the right on air talent.

With two college radio stations in the top 10 this year, we may see better things from these stations too.

Who would like to add Art Bell?

Tonight Stephen Colbert takes over The Late Show. Several of us did talk about options for the time and show when David Letterman announced his retirement, but I'm having difficulty finding all the posts or it was in some thread I've forgotten.

So I'll have to remind everyone, tacky as this seems, I did raise the question of a cable or a female host taking over. This was a topic of local discussion as we all wondered how different female/male hosts would be received locally. When I suggested a cable personality or female, I honestly was open minded of who would get the CBS gig; however, I do remember thinking Jon Stewart far more than Stephen Colbert. A lot has happened since we discussed this.

Since that time it seems to me Jimmy Kimmel has changed some and I believe it was Leno who stated Kimmel has become bitter. Jimmy Fallon had that bad accident with his finger. CBS, at least locally, has been running syndicated sitcoms. Meanwhile, Colbert has become "softer" in his demeanor preparing for the Late Show.

The time has come for the trio to start competing for their audiences. Who do you think will be the most successful? Do you plan on watching Stephen Colbert as he debuts tonight? I probably will. Please post any thoughts you have KIDK

Does anyone here listen to or know JB or John Balingy of KUPI's BreakfastBoys? While I mostly only listen to radio while driving, JB was covering the afternoon at least on Friday, last week, on the Arrow. I listened much longer than my drive.

OM goodness, is he always that funny? He had one line zingers that made me laugh and laugh and laugh

I can't believe I'm writing this, but I might have to try to listen one morning to country music. He may not be as funny in the a.m., but he was in fine form last Friday.

Officially,

1. I wonder what in the heck Rich Broadcast is doing with their tv Merry Christmas /Happy holiday thing.

2. I like the addition to Sandhill Media. I wonder who or which stations got the extra room? That was great use of the space, IMO.

3. Wonder if KLCE is going to make a run at getting their prior market spot back.......they are looking to hire a new afternoon host.

4. I think JB is too funny for Country. He has an intellectual humor that can thrive as he covers the Arrow. Most people not in a coma should understand 80% of his humor. His timing is so perfect there are a few songs I will never hear that his extra comments about those songs.

5. Give the Arrow a ding for running Gibb Forrester's vignettes (that is a plus), but still ZERO Christmas programming on 12/23 for Christmas. Big mistake, IMO.

Default Are There Plans for the PR Building? ; KPVI Bldg.

I was lookin at some things this week. I was not prepared to find either of these. It appears the Post Register building is for sale. That is a big building, maybe 20,000 sq. ft. A new owner could opt to have the PR stay or not.

Is there rail access behind this building?

Any thoughts how come the new company would want to sell the building?

KPVI has emptied their building on Lincoln Road and the entire building as well as space behind it is for sale. News to me.

So does KPVI have a different Idaho Falls location or are they going to staff only a Pocatello office?
