Greetings,

Can anyone give me an honest opinion or observation you may have noticed.......or experience with....... really, any honest positive and negative explanation to my questions about Blackfoot:

I have an opportunity to relocate to Blackfoot. I've never heard of this city until this opportunity came about.
I'd like to know what the culture is like. What are the people like? What kind of entertainment is offered, etc.

I am a non-traditional, eclectic- but honest and responsible type of person. I have tattoo's and I color my hair; enjoy wearing a few Hollywood trends. And my hobbies include camping, fishing, and hiking.

Basically, would my type of person be 'run out of town' by pitchfork waving, torch carrying people because I look and act a little different than the norm? Or is there by chance and 'artsy' type that lives in this city too?

I mean no disrespect in any way. Just trying to paint a picture and get an honest answer

Thank you ~

Hi Meek 2015,

f5fstop would be someone to contact here. Otherwise, I'd recommend you copy your post and go to the Idaho Falls sub-forum. Blackfoot is a town of 10K that works for folks who want horses or have a lot of money and can live out of town. Your age and job would be key factors.

It is 25 miles from Idaho Falls (I.F. is north) and it is 25 miles from Pocatello (Poky is south). I'd encourage you to search the I.F. sub-forum as many have asked about Blackfoot. Pull up one of those threads, after you have learned more, and either write a new post or copy this one and post it so those who live in the southeastern area of ID can answer more specific questions.

Everything is relevant to the specifics about you. Blackfoot is not growing but a couple of businesses are. Many of the employees at those businesses commute from either Pocatello or Chubbuck (south) or Idaho Falls (north).

See you in the Idaho Falls forum. PLEASE search and read the posts about Blackfoot. That helps everyone.

MSR

When I moved to ID, I researched and talked with many people about IF, Blackfoot and Pocatello. But Blackfoot was ruled out very early in my searching. A good friend in IF, described Blackfoot as a sad small city that is getting smaller. It didn't drop by much, but has gone down in the past few years.

But the primary reason was real estate. Could not find anything decent there, that I liked, at the time I was searching for a house. That is totally subjective so that might not mean a thing to anyone.

I would not live in Blackfoot if I were you. It would be well worth the ~20 min commute from Idaho Falls

No disrespect to those who live in Blackfoot, but Idaho Falls offers so much more as far as shopping, dining, entertainment, culture, housing, and a more diverse mix of people. You're not going to be "run out of town" by any means, but at the same time, you may be bored senseless if you're ever looking for something to do on nights and weekends. You can enjoy hiking, boating, and camping within a short drive regardless of where you choose to live.

I agree that a lot of it depends on where you're coming from. Big city? Small rural town? Maybe the small, industry-driven town of Blackfoot may actually fit your desires...

We live in a rural area but Blackfoot is the closest town to us. As someone said, it is a small town of 10,000 people. From your description of yourself I have to agree with another poster who said you may likely be very bored living in Blackfoot. There are a few restaurants, but if you want anything remotely close to arts and entertainment, culture or Hollywood trends Blackfoot is not the town for you. It's a straight up farming town with very friendly people.

Outdoor recreation is close at hand no matter which town you live in. Idaho Falls and Pocatello both sound like they might fit your interests better, and both are within easy commuting distance if the opportunity you alluded to is a job.

I live in blackfoot, and a lot of mormons live here. I don't think anyone would judge you too badly. I know I wouldn't. you might be bored my us though. We don't really have much. There aren't places for hiking or fishing. If you don't mind driving an hour or so there are places near blackfoot that have places for that.
