First off, I'd like to thank everyone who has given me such great info on the area. I can't wait to go visit again in a few weeks. IF is our first choice and Boise our second.

So on shopping...
I see that there is the Grand Teton Mall. What's it like? I hear your getting a Kohls? Have A Ross? Stuff like that? Old NAvy? I know that I can go to Salt Lake when I need Nordstroms ( A seattleite just can't breakaway, haha).

How about Targets? Costco, Sam's Club?

What's your airport like? ( we'll have to fly out of there a few times a year)
Easy to get to?
Nice?

What Grocery chains do you have? Albertsons? Fred Meyer? Safeway? Wholefoods? I know that there are super Wal-Marts (yes!).

WHen I visit I'll certainly drive around, but it's nice to get the info from y'all who live there!!

Oh, and can anyone tell me about the subdivision Journey's End in Shelly?

Thanks a bunch!!!

Let's see we have in the mall (as far as I can recall since I hate shopping LOL)-

Old Navy
Dillards
Macy's
JcPenny
Sears and several smaller shops (they do have awebsite listing all of them)

We have a Ross, Fashion Bug and the other one like Ross whose names escapes me right now. Bed, Bath and Beyond, Linen and Things and Target. Those aren't in the mall by right near it.

No Costco, the closest one is in Twin Falls, but we do have Sam's Club.

Grocery stores; Smith's, Alberston's, WinCo, Fred Meyer's and of course Sper Walmart.

The airport is on the west side of town and easy to get to. Your choices of airlines are Delta (Skywest), Horizon and Allegiant Air (Vegas trips), almost forgot we have United for Denver flights.

Sorry, no nothing about that subdivision in Shelley, but if you moved there you'd be doing most of your shopping up in IF.

On a sidenote for you husband, we have Lowe's, Home Depot and Ace Hardware

Thanks! Yes hubby will be happy those are close by. I went to the
Mall's website, just curious from a local perspective. Sounds like there's alot to choose from! How about restaurants? I know there's an Applebees, and the local brewery ( that was darn good). What other chains do yo have? And is there a real fancy restaurant in town for special occasions?

Thanks as always!

Eateries-

Texas Roadhouse (awesome food, bar/dining atmosphere)

Johnnie Carino's Country Italian (Yum!)

hIHOP

Jaker's Steak & Seafood (fine dining and yum!)

Perkin's (pancake/steakhouse genre)

Denny's (see above)

5 and Diner

Smitty's Pancake house (locally owned)

Olive Garden (getting soon)

Applebee's

Chili's

Sizzler

Chuck-a-rama buffet (if you get past the name, it's good food)

Hometown Kitchen (adjacent to Motel West, both locally owned, they have the best pies ever!)

There are about half a dozen Mexican places, but I prefer driving down to Blackfoot and going to Melina's

Then you have the fast food joints; Taco del Mar, Taco Bell, Burger King, Wendy's, Sonic, McDonald's, Dairy Queen and others I know I am forgetting.

Pizza; Papa John's, Papa Tom's, Papa Kelsey's, Pizza Hut, Godfather's, Papa Murphy's take and bake, Leo's and again probably forgetting something LOL

There's one place in town I'd tell you to stay away from, but you'd have to PM me for that as I'm not going to publicly blast a place

all those places sound great. Husband loves Sonic, we don't have them in WA. Cleosmom, went to Tulalip Indian Casino today and had a blast. Tom took me there for my birthday(which is tommarrow). We stayed for about 5 hours, that's all the time Tom could stand it any longer. Doesn't gamble and the smoke was killing him. Its about 1 1/2 hours drive but was worth it. Read the paper you mailed, Tom loved seeing all the winter stuff. thanks again

Thumbs up Some Updates

This thread hasn't been updated for quite a while. May time to add new information.

Idaho Falls has about 700 acres of river front property that is being re-developed. The two major developments are Taylor's Crossing, which will include a 13 story condo building, on the Snake River, plus a Marriott Residence Inn (built a few years ago). T.C. is adding some restaurants, but most of the additional bldg at T.C. will be office space.

Oh, they do have a wonderful, highly technical new reception center planned that is finally suppose to start construction soon. The link to T.C. is Taylor Crossing on the River.

The other development, rumored to be much more upscale and literally across the road from T.C., is called Snake River Landing. This is the link - not totally functional yet, but for those of us who have been watching this development occur, we finally got a "pre-website" as one friend of mine likes to say as a precusor to the "real web-site." Snake River Landing.

The main developer of Snake River Landing is Ball Ventures (BV), who owns a lot of businesses in Idaho and UT. Ball Ventures is gaining a lot of experience in the hotel industry and will start construction on their 4th I.F. located hotel in the BV development. They have brought in different brand name chains.

BV is working with NAI (as is T.C.) as there is a local office in Idaho Falls - one of two in Idaho, Coldwell Commercial Bankers Business Section out of Salt Lake City, UT and Voigt-Davis Realty in Idaho Falls to lease specific businesses.

SRL will truly be a new urbanism, mixed use development. The "pre" information gives some details. If anyone is interested in locating a business in either Taylor's Crossing or Snake River's Landing and wants more information, please send me a PM and I'll get you connected with the right people.

Many forget that Idaho Falls is the retail hub for at least 330,000 residents of eastern ID, western WY (including Jackson Hole), and southern MT (including Yellowstone National Park), plus all the tourists traveling through. Because of the traffic on the interestate daily, some wise investors are breaking Idaho Falls and eastern ID the first outlet mall in Idaho. The tenants haven't been announced yet, as the final zoning changes were just finished about a month ago. However, here is the link for Sunnyside Crossroads Regional Shopping Center (SCRSC) Untitled Document. As you can see, there are two phases of Outlet Mall Development plus more shopping across Sunnyside to the north for more stores.

SOME rumors place a new Costco at this location. I can't verify that information. I can tell you that Costco in UT is developing several stores currently and most likely start future stores in ID until many of the UT stores are built. As was pointed out to me, by a person in the building industry, Costco in UT is changing where they locate stores. Often, they were more stand alone with perhaps some strip mall stores around them. In the UT developments, they are developing in major shopping areas (even becoming an anchor in one mall), and sometimes have Sam's Club or a Wal-Mart in the same area.

Like everything, time will tell where Costco in Idaho Falls is built. I've heard 4 different locations, so who knows.

Established shopping anchors around the Grand Teton Mall, a General Growth Properties. Their website is: www.grandtetonmall.com. Besides the usual stores, there is a Dillards, Macy's and when General Growth Properties needed additional space, they built essential a strip mall behind the mall to add other national chains, such as Best Buy and PetsMart.

Barnes and Noble built a large new addition to the mall literally moving south from their previous location on 17th Street by Toys R Us, and Petco. Their new location is much more spacious, has a much large CD/DVD area and seating area to just read. Of course, they have a cafe'.

Across the street to the east in Ammon, is a full mile of developed properties that range from entertainment (Edwards Theatres - 14 movie theatres), to a Target (the only in eastern ID), Staples and Circuit City. Traditional stores such as: Bed, Bath and Beyond, Ross, Linen and Things, Big 5 Sports, Staples and recently Kohls are all in the area. Several chain and local restaurants are on both sides of Hitt Road AKA 25th East (the official boundary between Idaho Falls and Ammon). If you're not sure if a favorite store is in the area, look for it. And of course there are jewelry stores and banks, banks, banks.

The last segment of the Hitt Roads stores, called by many names and originally developed by Hawkins-Smith from Boise, is being built close to Kohls. Retailers who already have secured space include Lane Bryant, the Dress Barn and Deseret Books.

TGIF's, Johnny Carino's (apparently the second busiest in the U.S. per a stat I read), IHOP, Texas Roadhouse, Fazoli's and other restaurants, such as the Firehouse, which use to be part of a chain that went out of business, but local owners made changes and kept their restaurant profitable.

Chili's, Olive Garden and some pending other national restaurants are located on the west side of town on Lindsay Blvd. and in the new Taylor's Crossing/Resnaisance Development.

WAmoomy1, I won't be surprised if you and I have chatted elsewhere. And if so, you've lived in the area now close to 7 months. As you needed to know, Starbucks will have an independet restaurant in the Renassiance Development, very close to the Olive Garden and the new Ruby River Steak House, and Fairfiled. Off of the major I-15 exit for downtown.

Well this is a start of what's available in Idaho Falls currently. I do know of other businesses that have commited to stores, but am not free to list them currently. I hope others will list business, either national chains, or locals so readers have a better idea what is availble in Idaho Falls.
