it's something I could probably do myself, but I just don't have the time (and I want to make sure it's done correctly)

anybody have a recommendation on a good deck builder here in town? We're talking about a fairly simple one-level deck, thinking 12' x 18' or something along those lines.

Thanks!

I'll ask. Usually the lawn care/ landscaping folks do that. I've seen several that have been well done. It's a strength of many who build locally.

Also, tmp4, when you are out eating at restaurants that have decks (even if you aren't eating on the deck), ask who built those decks. Or call your favorite restaurants with a deck and get names.

You might want to email ATVWIFE and/or Hweb here. Both have looked at or completed building projects the past year. You can opt to send a regular email to them or send a PM. Hopefully others will post or send you a PM.

How are you liking being a home owner and getting what you want at home vs. what comes with the rental or lease?

I think it would be beneficial to the entire city-data community if folks could post the names of businesses they've used in the past. No need for private emails or PMs, right?

I love being a home owner here. Best decision I've ever made

Good idea about asking around at restaurants

Believe it or not, I have had great results from Angie's list for contractors here in Pocatello. Might want to give it a try.

thanks. Angies List was my first stop before posting here. There are 10 contractors listed under Decks & Porches, and all have A ratings, but 8 out of the 10 only have one review. Sort of tough to get a good feel from that small sample size

I know green acres home improvement does good work. I got no idea how much he would charge but I've seen quite a bit of their work and its quality craftsmanship

I didn't end up pulling the trigger last summer on a deck, but I definitely plan on getting one built this spring.

Got one estimate done in November, but it was a little higher than I budgeted and wanted to get a few more bids. I've sent emails to a few other local deck builders over the past month, but have yet to hear a response. My goal is to have them go at it as soon as the ground thaws in a month or two. Worst comes to worst, I have November's estimate to fall back on.

Any new suggestions please? Feel free to PM me or, better yet, post in this thread. Thanks!

Another suggestion, have you tried Home Depot or Lowes for their contractors?
