I'm here for work for the next several months. So far all I've seen that there is to do is a whole lot of nothing. Maybe it's me but it doesn't look like there's much money here. Kind of a culture shock to me because where I come from I'm used to seeing a more cultured society where people can afford to get out and do stuff.... Lots and lots of bars I've noticed but I'm
Over that scene. I'm married, so I'm not looking for any "action". I plan on buying a mountain bike and biking as the weather starts to turn. Is it going to be difficult to find like minded people around here who actually enjoy life and aren't just trying to survive? I apologize for my condescending demeanor of this post but so far this is the the vibe I've received from Pocatello.

Wow, I'm glad I don't have to spend much time in Pocatello! Good to know it's nothing but poor, uncultured drunks who all hate their lives and are stuck in perpetual survival-mode. Sounds depressing

Sorry, I was irritated when I posted earlier. Knew I was gonna offend someone, my bad. Not trying to troll. Sounds like city data isn't the place to find the info I'm looking for. After browsing the forum it appears people on here get offended way to easily and can't answer questions with a straight forward answer ....

The college community is rather active but economically, pocatello has seen better days. Same can be
said of Blackfoot. Its true there isnt much money or job growth, especially in winter. Come summer, more money is circulated. Construction slows significantly in part due to the climate and the fact that government doesnt spend in winter. But finding things to do is all up to you. I dont know if your into winter sports at all but were surrounded by it and its a good year for it. Pebble Creek ski area is right on top of poky and one of my faves close to pocatello is lava hot springs. If your looking for big city style culture the closest place to find anything close to it is in SLC. Idaho falls and Twin have more diverse and active shopping and dining opportunities for sure. Even poky "wakes up" from winters

What are your questions?

You have just two posts on this forum and not a question to be seen.... it seems that some OPs on city data can't ask questions in straight forward manner.

Maybe they get out and do things you don't do?

I live north of Pocatello, but know a few people and they keep very active, even in the winter. But their habits change from mountain biking and hiking to skiing and snowmobiling this time of the year.

Is Pocatello a hot spot? No. It is a small town of about 50K people that pretty much keep to themselves. Has it seen better days? Not sure, I wasn't here 30 years ago.

The heart of Pocatello is a bit rundown, but so is almost any city in the USA.

Not sure where you are from, or if you are even here for real or only as a troll, but I bet where you live the downtown area has gone down hill in the past 20 years.

And it is a college town....

But, the good thing is, if you don't like it here, don't come back!

The recent arrivals that I'm aware of (who seem to have discretionary $ and seem most happy with their choice to move to Pocatello) are excited about mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing and running the trail system. Being at the intersection of two interstates (I-15 and I-84), Pocatello has always been a hub & spoke set-up for noteworthy weekend trips and day excursions. Many of the happy-seeming new arrivals seem to get subscriptions to the Idaho State Civic Symphony and/or Season of Note at ISU's Stephen's Performing Arts Center and a lot seem to enter every 5K, 1/2 Marathon & accompanying "festival" from spring to fall (there is a whole charity run scene that runs for many months in Pocatello). The Juniper Hills Country Club is very modest-priced and has many ways to join. I believe many do join for the golf, tennis and swimming (or just go and join their friends there). As you might imagine, many who come to work in the medical field network with each other, as do the ones who are recruited by I.S.U. or ON Semiconductor. Last, I've noticed most fresh-to-town folks find a quirky independent restaurant or bar (ethnic or otherwise) that they connect with for whatever reason and they become fond regulars there. A specific recommendation if you will be here in to the summer is to plan to be very involved with Pedalfest in early June (regional mountain biking extravaganza). The people who sign up to help with that (prepare trails, be on a host committee, etc.) seem to get to know a lot of like-minded upbeat people and it seems like they have a VERY festive long weekend .
