Our kids are 10-14 years old and we’re moving to the If area as a job transfer. The hardest decision I’m dealing with is which neighborhoods to look into to allow our kids to make friends with the same kids they’ll go to school with knowing that they’ll be attending Rigby for high school eventually. Our kids are well rounded; academic, athletic, cultural, and non-LDS ourselves (we’re Christian) although we currently belong to LDS scouts troops and about 50% of our friends are LDS where we live now. I haven’t decided if we want to live in a community where the homes are closer together or have land. My husband and I have experience with both but our kids have only ever lived in track communities. Please include both options in your replies. I’m not concerned about weather necessarily as I’ve lived in much heavier and longer winters. I can drive to church, stores, the movies and restaurants but desperately want some trees and beauty right outside if possible and certainly within walking distance. Finally, what’s your experience with Rigby high? Would you send your kids there and why? What feeder elementary school do you recommend most? Is there a local Boy Scout troop you can recommend? How about kids sports groups (basketball, football, baseball, softball)? Any areas to avoid living? Do you have a real estate agent you would recommend? Any recommendations for pediatricians and dentists would also be greatly appreciated.
We Have family in Pocatello, Boise, and Sun Valley but don’t know anyone in IF with kids to ask for advice. I’ve read as many threads, articles and opinions as I can but this specific topic never comes up. We’re in town for the next week and hope to start narrowing down options while we’re here.
Thanks.

It's going to be my guess, we have no kids, that you'll want to live in Jefferson County as that's where Rigby is located. There's possibly outlaying areas in Bonneville County that are in Rigby's district.

Here, this might be of some help http://jeffersonsd251.org/our-school...-boundary-map/

You asked a few too many questions at once to receive a good reply, hops.

I think if you were to simplify it down to just a few of your most important concerns, you would get more and better answers.

Most homes in Jefferson county are spread apart. Not much curb and gutter. As it is a more rural area, there isnt much diversity between neigborhoods. But the majority of neigorhoods are pretty close in proximity to Rigby High. May I ask why Rigby High? It was notorious when I was growing up for hosting more teen pregnancies. There probably is no data to back that up.
Some who live in Bonneville county might be able to apply to attend school in the other district. Here is where you will find more suburban housing developments.

Default Thanks!

Thanks again. Your teen pregnancy comment made me laugh out loud. I too have my concerns as I read blog posts and statistics. I will look into the Bonneville option. This is a whole new area for us. I was hopeful to be nearer the reservoir or rivers so I suppose I just need to hunt. Here we go...

Try looking at BonneVille District #91, which has far less LDS influence. Bonneville District #93 is far more LDS centered.
