My wife and I are on the fence about moving to the Idaho Falls area from Northern Arizona. I have applied for a position with a company, still waiting to hear back. I have a few questions:

How many California Transplants do you have? We are being driven out by transplants. Overdeveloping the area, heavy traffic, crime, noise, the small cowboy town atmosphere is about dead. Is this same thing happening to the Idaho Falls area?

How is the cost of living?

My wife and I grew up in a rural area, and we currently own a home in a rural area. We would like to buy a home in an area that is not plagued with drugs and low life's. What area's should I avoid?

We also have children. In addition to the question before this, what rural area has the best (and worst) rated schools?

My wife is a stay at home mother. I am the sole provider for a family of 4, and IF we do move to the area, we want to have 1 more child, so a family of 5. I made just over $62,000 last year. If I get the same pay offer as I make now up there, is that enough to live on? I guess this crosses with the cost of living question.

What are the summers like? (How warm does it get, what is the humidity level on average) I know the winter's are cold. My wife and I have lived in Alaska, so that isn't a concern.

Lastly, we are not LDS. Are we going to be outed by not being LDS? I’m not sure what the religious demographics are in the area, but I know Idaho celebrated settlers day with Utah, so the Mormon population must be high.

Thanks in advance folks.

I would guess that your wages would go farther here than in AZ. Cost of living is low. There are plenty transplants here but they generally arent viewed as invasive.

In the summer months, high temperatures average around mid to upper 80s. I find it very comfortable as this is a dry climate. The air is actually thinner here due to high altitude and it's easy to cool off in the shade.

How you react to mormons is entirely up to you. In our smaller towns, they can be a bit more oppressive. I've known several who lived in small towns but went to school in Bonneville county because of this. I would suggest you find housing in rural Bonneville county as the schools serve larger, more diverse populations.

Thanks for the reply Dude. The summer sounds perfect. Where we currently live, the Elevation is 4,447 at my house, and I work apl the way up to sometimes 10,000’. Idaho Falls sits at 4,705, so that part won’t hurt me, or my family any.

I have some Mormon family. From what I have gathered in my time visiting Utah, the church has a little too much involvement in personal lives.

I will do a search to see what includes Bonneville county.
