So, I got a referral for a Geologist position in the Salmon Challis National Forest with the FedGov. Got an e-mail Friday asking for references and heard back from two of them an hour later that they'd already been interviewed.

Two positions available, one in Salmon and one in Challis. Wanted to bump this thread as I'm looking into the areas. Main concern for me seems to be the total lack of housing - where's a single guy with no dependents supposed to live up there?

I'm a small-town guy (grew up in a town in SE Ohio [Appalachia] of less than 1000 people) but have lived in the city (Columbus, OH for about 6 years) as well as roughed it with the Army in the mountains of Afghanistan, lived in BFE in Louisiana, and took a class geology trip to Utah to dig for dino bones. Mostly I applied for this job because I want to move west - was looking in the Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming areas for employment with either state or federal gov't.

Wanted to bump this thread to see if any thing significant had changed in the areas, give a fresh view to the advice above, and ask where in the world I'm supposed to look for housing. lol

Anything you folks can add to the previous information would be greatly appreciated.
