I have been trying out Family Mobile for the past few months. My two-year Verizon contract expired last Saturday and since I purchased an iPhone through the Apple Store, my Verizon costs would more than double, so I'm looking to switch to a month-to-month low-cost plan. I also tired to obtain a Straight Talk SIM chip yesterday, but Walmart did not have one that would fit my particular iPhone, (nano chip size).

I'll have to order a Straight Talk SIM chip through the company itself over the web. When I make my recon trip next month to the northern Rockies, I'll have both Family Mobile service and Straight Talk service and am going to compare each to see which has the better coverage. I'll be splitting my time in roughly thirds, sending time in the Bighorn Basin of WY, a trip up to Three Forks/Bozeman to visit a friend, then drop down into eastern ID to check out potential retirement cities/locations.

I'll report back with my experiences. As norcalmom said, Family Mobile uses the T-Mobile network and with the junk fees, runs about $41 per month for unlimited talk/text/data. Straight Talk uses the AT&T network and costs $5 additional for unlimited talk/text/data. Both are no-contract, month-to-month plans and neither will allow you to use your phone as a network hot-spot.
