Proximity to salt lake city and nature (rental, condo)

Greetings members,

I have been in SLC for half of my life after moving here from Asia.Drove around all the neighboring states. Idaho appeals to me - always was a mountain person and add to that greenery and a lot of streams - I am sold

We are 40/35 with a kid. Have a truck and dog (he needs space to run around and will be with us. So prefer no rules against pets)
Obviously I am not white/native but spending 20 yrs here probably made be native on the inside.

Is there a place you guys/gals would recommend that is within driving distance from SLC (we make up our mind on friday afternoon, be there the same day & leave Sunday morning to be back to our chores) that could fit one or two of these scenarios? Year-round access is a must.

1) A land to put a trailer in over the weekend in midst of some scenery, close/next to a stream and to a small town would be ideal. Buildable in future

2) A property with reasonable acreage - 1 acre minimum that could serve as an airbnb if we are not using it.
I would just work with a local to help with the rental

To add: I am not LDS but I am probably 90% there in terms of family values minus a glass of wine & prayer

Budget : if land 75K or lower, if property double that. I know I am being probably low end here but we have a current mortgage to finish paying off hopefully in a few years

You are asking about buying a recreational lot?



Out in the country is not a good place to let your dog run. The dog can be shot for harassing livestock or chasing wildlife. Coyotes will kill and eat even large dogs. Keep your dog under control if you value the dog.


Letting the dog run in a small town is beyond rude; sending your dog out to poop on other people's property is not going to make you popular with your new neighbors.


If you get an acre or two and put up a good dog proof fence, your dog can run and exercise inside the fence, and if the dog is extremely well trained and returns to you instantly each and every time you call the dog, the dog can probably be off leash in the National Forest as long as you can see and contriol the dog at all times.

Absolutely.
I meant running within our property
When I lived in a condo a few years ago, there were rules against pets by the HOA.
Now he runs around fine in our fenced yard

So do you want to be in the hills and forests, more than the open dry lands? It sounds like you want to be in hills and forest, but I want to make sure. And how many hours away from SLC is OK for your planned trips?

And how important is it to you to easily sell the property? Some rural areas are cheap but are so remote that they become harder to sell. But with your price range, being in that price range will tend to push you to the less popular areas.


And short term rental potential is going to mean that there has to be some attraction nearby, like a lake or national forest.
