My family is considering moving to Idaho Falls. We have researched Idaho Falls on the web and like what we have seen and read. A concern I have is that my husband has worked in warehouse/manufacturing over 8 years now and there doesn't seem to be any warehouse jobs in the Idaho Falls area. Any recommendations on that? Also any advise on apartments? When does the snow start/end and how much do you get? Thank You!

I won't lie, jobs are scarce here right now in SE Idaho, including Idaho Falls. If you do come, be prepared and have employment first.

Snow can start as early as October, usually nothing sticks though until November and ends in Feb/March, although last year the last snow was June 11.

There are both modern apartment rentals, townhouses and quads all over Idaho Falls and Ammon. I couldn't even begin to know what the rental rates are right now since we own.

Have your husband check several sources other than the local newspaper for job leads, if you'd like some suggestions feel free to shoot me a Direct Message.

Salt Lake City area has better warehouse/manufacturing employment going for it than Idaho Falls, and about the same weather.

Question Could You Give Us More Specific Information?

rkscharris,

You probably have your reasons you are looking at Idaho Falls to live, be it family, friends, proximity to National Parks etc. So I won't address that part.

Snow and weather - who knows the last two years. It use to be January was the bitter cold; now it seems like it is Dec. Snowfall varies.

What I mainly wanted to ask is if you could be more specific about what type of warehouse/manufacturing type of skills your husband has? There are companies who can't hire enough employees for their specialized businesses. It would help to know more.

I'm also not clear on when you may make this move. A job may open that isn't open now. That being said, I totally support what Cleosmom wrote about securing employment prior to moving.

Meanwhile, look at the Idaho Dept of Labor for jobs. Their link is: Job Listings & Searches - Idaho.gov Idaho Falls is in Bonneville County as often jobs are broken down by County. Ammon is also in Bonneville County. Rigby is north and close by. It is in Jefferson County. Shelley, is south of Idaho Falls, and is in northern Bingham County.

If you can give us some more information, or send me a PM, I may be able to give you some names of companies to research. Also, don't rule out the Idaho National Lab.......all sorts of jobs there. Many can't really talk about what they do. It's worth a look: www.INL.Gov.

I hope we hear more from you so we can better direct you to possible opportunities.

MSR

No main reason for coming to IF, just looking. We are looking at other places in Idaho, Washington and Oregon. My husband and I grew up in Oregon and are ready for a change. IF was recommended as one of the places we should look into. The more we look...the more we like it.

As far as my husbands skills go, he has done just about everything you could think of in a warehouse environment (shipping, receiving, truck loading and unloading, staging orders, delivery and small warehouse management). He likes this line of work and is good at it!

We are not looking for any specific job openings at this time as we wouldn't be moving until summer, maybe. We just want to get a feel for what is in the IF area and do some networking. It seems to me that most good jobs are never posted. It is just a matter of know where to look!

We are both employed now and would want to secure employment before moving.

Thank You

Glad we've been able to give you some hopeful insight. Our fear is we don't want you moving here without a job in place and then being miserable, that would be no fun anywhere.
