I am from wyoming and just got hired on with an engineering company in Rexburg. I have a little one on the way and I am excited to start a career and get settled down-- especially in an area close to my home town in Wyoming. I decided not to look at housing options in Rexburg because I was told by multiple people, including an lds resident of Rigby, that Rexburg woulnd't be a good fit and Rigby might be a little better for me. It all seemed to be based around the issue of seclusion do to my lack of membership in the lds church.

I am considering moving to Rigby because it is close to both my work and Idaho Falls where my wife will be working and going to school. I have found a house that I really like in Rigby and need to be there ASAP. I have concerns about the size of the lds population (whats the percentage) in Rigby. I have to say that I am very accepting of all people and I am not concerned about being around the lds comunity or anything like that. I have met and been friends with lds members who are great people. My concern lies in raising my kid. I worry that in a largely lds dominated comunity that my child will be secluded in school and have a hard time making friends as well as being accepted and having equal opportunities in sports. I would also like for my child to experience diversity in his schooling which seems to be hindered by this situation. I realize Eastern Idaho isn't the most diverse place in the world, but some diversity would be nice.

Does anyone have experience with this issue-- especially in the Rigby school systems? I would greatly appreciate any advice/knowledge about this issue.

(note: I tried to be pc about this issue... please understand my concern lies with my sons education and future and nothing further)

Don't worry...this sort of question comes up from time to time. There are folks in that area both of the LDS faith and not...and I'm sure some will give you input...but searching the Idaho forum for this sort of topic should yield quite a bit of discussions from the past 12 months...
