I am very curious as to what wildlife people see in northern Idaho? Animals you see all the time while going for a drive or walk. I am so excited to actually be near wildlife once I move there. I know that in town there isn't much, but just outside of town is what I am curious about. The CDA, Hayden, Post Falls, and sandpoint areas. I have never been so excited to move in my life (I hate moving)!

Well the paper often has pictures of wildlife right in town. In my area deer are constant as are the roving bands of wild turkeys. Moose wander through once in a while. I have not seen elk yet but we have not been here long. My neighbor spotted a bear a couple of weeks ago. Mountain lions are around but good luck seeing one of those. Seems like a good spot for Bigfoot but no sign of any yet. There are rabbits and chipmunks running around. Turtles too. Little garden snakes. All kinds of really cool birds. Bald eagles, great horned owl, canadian geese.

In Clark Fork (30 miles east of Sandpoint) we've seen moose, elk (on our property), deer, a black bear, ospreys, bald eagles, and a golden eagle. Those wild turkeys seem to be everywhere! Our neighbor has also seen a mountain lion. There are grizzlies in the Cabinet Mts--I'm hoping they can't figure out how to cross the river...
As you'll see if you do a search on wildlife in North Idaho, the animal to watch out for is the moose--not smart enough to be afraid, and big enough to do major damage to cars, pets and people.

I am an avid hunter and wildlife watcher, so I do know how to act around most animals. Allthough I have yet to see a moose in person and have watched documentaries about them (especially damaging cars). The bear does make me a little nervous as I have never encountered one before, but do know how they tell you to act in that situation. Mountain lion is nothing new, we have them here as well and there seemed to be a lot of them where I lived most of my life (napa valley). I saw a bald eagle once when I was 16, it was majestic and very awe inspiring. I am very much looking forward to watching the wildlife!

A little south, in Moscow I have seen:
Lots of elk
Lots of deer
Lots of pheasant
Lots of smaller animals-squirrels, rabbits, etc.
hawks
turkeys
porcupine
raccoon
moose
But the wildest animal I've ever seen?

A frat member on a friday night.

Well I live in downtown CDA and I am out with my paintball gun once a week getting deer out of my landscaping. Only thing I have found to keep them away. There was 9 of them last night.

BTW, paintball gun is on low pressure, not trying to hurt them, trying to scare them.

WOW, 9? That's awesome (or not so much, depending on the situation ). My wife and I are so excited to be closer to nature. It seems (at least in our eyes) that CDA is the best of both worlds! Not far at all and your in the forest but a big enough city to still have things to do. And only being a little ways from spokane for even more shopping! I can't wait! I am glad I found this forum and everyone on here has been really nice in taking time to answer my questions, I am sure I will have more to come. Thank you to everyone! Beers on me once I get there!
