Hi MT Griz, we have members in SE ID, but I don't think we actually have any regular posters living around Salmon. Wish I could help, but I've only driven through in summer. It seems to me that 93 to 26 to I-15 (Blackfoot) was a good, direct route to I-15, and that 28, while shorter, was at a higher altitude, but I could be way wrong. How far south on I-15 are you going?

Take a kit in your car, for emergency, in case of white out blizzards, which can happen that time of year. Water, blankets, food, batteries, flashlight, warming packets.

Also, don't rely on Cell phone use for emergencies, off of I-15 service can be spotty in Idaho, and Montana.

Tell your family or a friend your route, when you are leaving, and when you expect to get to your destination. Call them when you stop for gas, and when you get to your destination. This time of year, you can't be too careful, when travelling off of major freeways in that area.

Generally, the 28 to 33 route over to I-15 north of Idaho Falls would be your best bet. However, this year is providing some early season storms.
