We live in ct right now and we are wondering how life is riggins idaho we have been looking and the pictures look beautiful. Can anyone respond with information about living in riggins and surrounding towns. We will soon be retiring and love fishing--is it a good place to live

It could be a good place to retire & fish if you are ok with a town of 400 far from major urban areas or even small towns with a few thousand people.

One thing to consider is that apparently a hospital is about 40 miles away.

The suggestion to also consider Kamiah and other towns could also be extended to Kooskia and Orofino. Still on river, still small but closer to urban services and maybe cheaper land too.


Not much snow. On average 60 days over 90 degrees in the summer. Last summer may have been cooler. Sometimes over 100 though exactly where you are (full sun or shade) can affect the temperature you feel a lot.

Property from fairly cheap to very expensive. The more and better the land, it can get expensive fast.

Riggins lies in the bottom of a narrow steep canyon, and it's dark- not much sunshine except for the middle of the day. Lots of hunting and fishing, but no broad vistas until you climb up on a mountain top.
