Hi there I am a 55 year old married man, my wife is ten years my junior. I have lived in Humboldt County for over 20 years and arre looking to get out of here. She is employed by a large grocery store and I have been A commercial fisherman for 30 years and also make high-end fireplace mantels coffee tables out out of redwood burl and other woods.I have many different skills, my stepfather lives in the pan handle, and her daughter and grandkids live in Wendell. We arre both originaly from the midwest, her from Illinois and I from Michigan. I am pretty much a Libertarian, and she is non-political and gets along with everyone. We will be looking for a cheap fixer-upper any pointers would be appreciated

Most importantly have a job lined out before you get here. Unless you have a lot of savings or a retirement. This place is hard to make a go out of it cold turkey. Their are a few small furniture shops around here that make custom things. One of my buddies owns one and he is very slow right now. As far as houses go look for foreclosures. I myself have been looking for months and their are a lot of fixers out there. Problem is the price is usually not a fixer price. Agents are all over the good deals and most houses I was interested in sold in a few days. Before I got a counter offer back....

hmmmm, sounds like maybe doing handyman work for the real estate people might be an option, I've helped build about five house in my life, and even took a log house building seminar in Monroe Washington when I was working in Kent as a machinist.Framing, drywall mud n tape paint hardwood floors...... I am very reluctant to go without a guaranteed job but I can be pretty relentless when the situation calls for it.Thanks for the imput, still haven't called my stepfather in Plummer to say I'm moving up to that neck of the woods who knows mabe he might have some connections, thanks again.

North Idaho is for the most part Republican but as long as you aren't going out looking for a 'fight' politically you will be just fine. The Coeur d'Alene area is pretty laid back and most people are really easy to get along with.

Finding a cheaper fixer upper house in the area should not be a problem.

With family in Plummer I would probaly be looking in the Coeur d'Alene area for a house. It is a quick run up Hwy 95 from Plummer and just far away the family wont be at your house daily but visiting is not a chore.

You may also want to look into the Spokane area for a job.

I agree, CDA or Spokane will be the best area's job-wise. I would look @ the spokane/cda craigslist and see whats cooking on there.

A fixer-upper will cost vary in cost depending on what your looking for. I can only speak for CDA price's, if your looking for something run of the mill, not high end, and not low end, you would be looking from 120-150. Might be able to find some lower, just depends on what your looking for!
