My husband used to do lampworked beads and the only studio I know of is in Spokane.

SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms...Barony of Wealdsmere...google it) has someone who teaches lampwork bead making in the Spokane Valley area. I've done two levels of the class and it was really cool...as a guy I liked the torch and flame and melting things...but I actually made some pretty cool beads for my wife...

Same with my husband, then he got into lampworked paperweights. He did it all in Phoenix though.

The hard part for me was making the bead-in-progress not shatter when I was trying to add the more tricky heavy-metallic stuff...or breaking my bead on the mandrel while trying to shape it...the ham-fisted approach is NOT the way to make beads...

That's for sure. He sold all his glass stuff when we moved up here and now has welders and a plasma cutter for hobby tools. It's a lot more forgiving.
