I've always been curious where people draw the line between North Idaho and the rest of the state. I'm on the Palouse and figure the time zone bridge is as good a place as any but I'm wondering where others define the border. Am I out of the official area? Is there an official area?

I've always felt that the Clearwater River was sort of the natural divide, even though it's north of the time zone line. Lewiston is part of the high school athletic league of North Idaho. Lewiston is the southernmost region where Idaho Youth Soccer Assn divides the regions in Idaho and leagues. So this means that socially speaking, Lewiston is part of the north (and Orofino sends some teams to our league), but once you get south of there, they are socially/demographically tied to the southern region a bit more. Just my opinion.

Probably Riggins and the Salmon River.

Default The line...

I always tell people that anything south of the river in Lewiston isn't Idaho.

I would have to say from Lewiston North is North Idaho and Lewiston South would be more of Central Idaho. But when I day North Idaho I am usually always speaking for Coeur d'Alene and north.

Yes I agree Cda would be the North Idaho line. It's been cut off from the rest of the state for years. Only until recently has this area gotten the attention of Boise. And we still don't get any respect up here either.

I'm in Moscow. We think of ourselves as North Idaho, as do most folks I know from Lewiston. Anyone I've met from points south of Lewiston tends to think of themselves as from central Idaho.

I agree that Riggins is a pretty reasonable dividing line. I've heard the line put as far south as McCall and (as per this thread) as far north as CdA. But most "Lewistonians" consider themselves from North Idaho and I consider places like Grangeville to be closer to northern Idaho than southern Idaho. To me, southern Idaho consists of the Snake River Plain and some of the mountain areas close to it.
