Great morning for you. Lovely shots. LOL and toyman makes me laugh on how we determine some things are ripe or not............................... It is not a way I would have thought to check.

Misty, thanks for sharing! Great shots--and presence of mind!

LionFamily, sounds like you're having a great time--just be careful not to get in-between a cow and her calf, especially with your dog...I don't know if the moose are as tame as the deer on the Peninsula, but I don't think so!

Default Thanks, Clark!

Boy, was I glad that the "mommy and baby" experience happened while the short person was back at the vacation pad! The cow was actually a couple hundred feet away-thank goodness. But I have to say, I love moose. They taste goooood!!!

I think I related my moose adventure before, but heck, I don't have many good stories to tell. A few years ago my wife told me we had a mom and calf by our house. They weren't that common where we were living at that time. I went out with the camera, made sure mom saw me. Everything is fine, she and child continue munching on some brush while I take pics.

Then...one of our dogs gets out of the house. He figures the baby would be fun to play with, barking, getting down on his belly, all that good doggie stuff. I'm over yelling at the bleeping dog, trying to get him away, when finally the mama has enough. She charges the dog. Dog runs for cover, right behind you know who.

Man's best friend, my azz!

Had the .45 out, pointed at the moose, of course didn't want to fire. First, a .45 won't stop a moose, at least not "right now", and second is the whole legal, ethical thing. Still, I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6, and I'm not getting stomped w/o a fight. Finally at about 5 yards I could tell she was turning, her momentem carried her past me. She turned around and left with the baby, while giving us the evil eye.

I really had to resist the urge to shoot that da*ned dog.
