Hi everyone,

We are moving to Pocatello in October and we have one lab/mix dog who likes to spend a lot of time outside. I have noticed that it is quite difficult to find a house rental that is pet-friendly in Pocatello, and I was wondering if any of you might be able to help.

Here is what we are looking for...
-A 1 or 2 bedroom house with a fenced-in yard for the pup to play in!
-Rent somewhere around $750/$800 (we are willing to make an extra pet deposit, too)

We can be flexible for the right situation! We are also responsible tenants who pay our bills on time every month, so I wish it wasn't so hard to find a place. We are hoping someone might know a great landlord or business to inquire about pet-friendly rentals.

Thanks for your help!

--Katie

Katie,

My advice is to check with the local veterinarians and the humane society. They often know of those rentals. It also might help to have references from your previous landlord(s) to vouch for you.

You can also try calling a few of the real estate agencies, often times real estate agents own homes that they rent out to folks with pets. Have you tried Craig's list?

I asked around a bit.. I heard this..

Most people won't consider it, I've have pets and I know how destructive the little *$#%s can be, so I can't say I blame owners on not taking the risk. I have a good friend that has a house for rent that fits your description pretty well. They have 2 dogs and move to Orifino for a job, I asked them and they said they've been there looking for a place to rent with dogs, and they still won't accept pets. Not worth the risk. Funny how it all changes when you are on the other side.

Here are some of the larger apartments complexes that will work with people on pets.

Kirkwood Meadows, The Grove, and a Pocatello Heights. Some were pricey...

Just have to keep looking for a private home, it is tough, and probably expensive.

Default Thanks...

Thank you both for your help and advice. Honestly, I am a little shocked by how difficult it is to rent with a dog, especially considering we would pay a pet deposit and make sure to fix any damage that our dog might cause. So many people have cats and dogs...I really think renters should give people like us (respectful with great credit) a chance!

I guess I will just keep hunting and hope for the best...
