Looks like the forecast changed since last I looked, so the next item just moved from my "to do later" to my "to do" list. I don't have a garden since we moved in at the end of August, but I do have a small goldfish pond outside.

Does anyone have any advice on how to winterize goldfish?

Looks like it might be a chilly one tonight. 36 degrees and it's not even 10 pm.

Well, we harvested today...a bunch of green tomatoes, a bunch of lovely onions and potatoes and carrots, and my kids ate the last of the raspberries and blackberries in our berry patch. From here on, we're done with the garden for the year (beyond planting garlic) and adding more aluminum sulfate to get the PH lower.

varies by fish, but basically, you need to keep a small portion ice free and need to keep the water oxygenated, but whatever method you use has to avoid disturbing the water a lot... the very cold water sinks to the bottom, the ice insulates the top, and you get a warm thermocline in the center that the fish live in. a small heater with very minor agitation (for oxygen transfer) is the best bet.

Five full weeks after we had our first frost here, and we're only an hour and fifteen minutes from Spokane. Amazing how variable the temps are here.
